Need Help on picking proper AMP
hey guys, i recently recieved a set of kicker ss8 subwoofers from a friend who had them, but had no use for them, they were just sitting in his room so he gave them to me. The subwoofers are [2] 8" subs and i think there are 2 tweets around the sides of the box. I was looking for an amp but i dont know what the wattage is on the subwoofers and i heard that the amp wattage has to match the sub wattage or the subs will blow. I dont if its true but maybe u guys can help me out. Here are the amps i choose, which one should i actually buy.
1) Bazooka BA1300 1-Channel Car Amplifier (300 Watts of amazing power at 2Ohm with a total of 500 Watts Max) [14.4V Dynamic Power At 2 Ohms 500 Watts] [2 OHM Output Power - Full Range 375 Watts] [4 OHM Output Power - Full Range Bass Only 250W]
2) Infinity 1-Channel Car Amplifier (310A) total max power - 347 watts [14.4V Dynamic Power At 2 Ohms 347 Watts] [Bridged Power At 2 OHMS - Full Range 294 Watts ] [Bridged Power At 4 OHMS - Full Range 116 Watts ]
I would appreciate any input from 7th Gen Civic members.
thanks,

Not to hijack or ruin your thread but 2 12" Alpine Subs + 10,000 Wattage + Competition Stuff =
How about some pictures to prove me wrong?!?!?

I think you do not know what you are talking about. Alpine's number one subs are the type x, they can handle maybe 2000 or 3000 rms and that is way too much power, its rediculous, they are rated at 1000 rms. Alpine is not really a competition brand anyway. Orion, ssi, and visonik are some competition brands.
Also you need to know how many ohms the subs are rated at. Then look at wiring diagrams to figure out if you wanna wire them in parallel, series, etc, then pic out corresponding amp. You see, you could have a 500 watt amp rated at 2ohms and wire it at 4hms ohms and it would only be 250 watts to the subs, which would have to be rated at 4 ohms, the sub that is.
Both of those amps are kinda shitty, especially the bazooka, complete waste. Soundstream, jl audio, jbl, alpine, phoenix gold, etc are all good.
Look at dealtime.com and etronics.com for some good deals.
I donnot know about that type of sub, go on other forums and find some people with experiance with those subs. I know that alpine subs can always take more than they are rated at, and jl audio can as well, not sure about kicker ss8.
2 tweets, do you mean ports, cause tweeters are for highs.
I will think what i want, and so should you, do not just ask a question like that on a forum and then go blow your money on something. Research and learn about what your spending your cash on.
If you knew anything about competition why would you ask such a dumb questions???
Man i still can not believe you pulled that alpine competition **** out of your ***, you thought alpine is high quality, competition sounds good, 12"s are loud. Do not try and sound pretentious!!!
I am not saying i am a pro or anything car stereo is just a small hobby of mine, so i do not know that much, i am still learning myself.

prob not. The rating for speakers is actually the amount of heat the voicecoil can withstand from DC. Audio signals are in AC, so while the rating is close, its not always important. its much more important to be feeding the amp an unclipped signal. Since your amp is capable of producing more than enough, it shouldnt be a problem.
how bout some more info on your competition gear?

It depends on the brand, and model of woofer. I know some audio bahn subs have weak voice coils and can barely take the suggested rms wattage. I had two friends blow theirs within a couple of months after buying theirs. It was funny cause they bought them like a month apart, and they blew about a month apart. One of them got new ones under warranty, and they seemed to be allright, so maybe it was just bad luck.
Oh yeah they bought them at totally different places so it was not just a bad batch, or refurbished.
^Man is he full of it or what!!!!
10,000 watts

Okay
kicker ss8-midrange speakers
kicker sL5 and s8L7 are subs
are your woofers square???
also, look for ohm rating on subs.
