Stock Speakers
Stock Speakers
what does it take to blow stock speakers?... like does it take a wholeeeeee lot of bumping?... for example... i have a SE civic... bass is 6... treble is -1... volume is usually 20-25 out of a max of 40... is there any way i can blow them like this?... is it necessary for me to get bass blockers when i get my infinity basslink?
If you have a factory system, even if it is an SE, I don't think it will be easy to blow them. However, with a high powered aftermarket system, blowing them would be easy. I installed an Alpine 9851 in my 04' Civic EX, thinking it would improve the sound quality somewhat, but I was wrong. I really didn't know how weak and "gutless" the factory speakers are. With the stock radio in, which may be different than the SE (Iknow it has a 6cd Changer or something like that), the speakers never distorted until about 9 out of ten bars on the volume ****, but with the new alpine (18 watts RMS by 4) at 15 they start to distort and are just as loud (total volume with alpine is 35) as the stock radio on 9 out of 10 bars. Really, I would encourage you to get new speakers with a high db rating (efficiency rating, the higher the better) or buy a new cd player.

since your stock speakers are only alike 15 watt rms, they really are crappy. i blew mine soon after i got a Alpine h.u., and then got some JL 3-ways, it made the rears better, but im saving for some Focals in the front, and damn are those some nice speakers. get them if you like high quality.
ok.. this is the thing... im keepin the whole stock system... the head unit.. the speakers... will it and can it blow?... im staying stock and adding the infinity basslink... can the speakers blow if i stay completely stock... its the SE head unit.. panasonic made i believe
stock systems suck unless it is bose or boston acoustics, and maybe, maybe some infinity systems, i may be missing some, fill in. Blow em out of there or atleast try, they re garbage. SE head unit, unless it has rca outputs, toss it for one that does.
Basslink, save the loot for some real power!!!
I don't think they can blow, it is usually hard to get stock speakers to blow, anyway they will destort way before they blow. I donnot mean to rag on you SE "system", buy it is pretty much the truth, sorry.

yah i know its not the best... but i like it.. and im keepin it... im just sayin... will it blow if i keep the stock head unit and stock speakers.. im not changing anything.. i just would like to know if they would ever blow...
like i said, it is usually real hard to blow stock speaker, and they would distort before they did, so you would'nt wanna turn up that loud anyway.
If you want a simple answer, no they probably will not.

Distortion is what kills speakers. If you hear it distorting it's way too loud. I also don't know how that could possibly sound good with Bass +6 and Treb -1. Get the Basslink in there and zero out the HU settings. That should prevent you from really blowing it up.
If you have an aftermarket deck, they will blow easy, but i dont even think its possible to blow the stock speakers with the stock head unit because it doesnt go loud enough, eventually though they will wear out and rip or pop.

haha... you have your stocks running at +6 bass..lol. You must have a lot of distortion coming out of those speakers.
I have not used my stock deck often, but I do remember if you turn up the bass to +6 it will produce distorted sound. The highest I ever put the stocks at was +3 bass. Most of the time with the stock deck, I'd run it at +2 bass.
I still have my stock speakers in the rear. I've had them in there since I got my car in Feb 04'. No distortion comes out of them, and I think they do a decent job. Obviously its not better than aftermarket speakers, but you can blow any speakers if you abuse them.
Running stock speakers at +6 bass is abusing them. I don't care what anybody says.
btw, I do have an aftermarket deck now, and I've only used the stock deck for total of maybe 2 weeks.
