I was out with my friend last week and he's got a w7 and that thing bumped pretty hard. I liked it so much Im thinking of buying one maybe even two. I called the local audio shop and I could get one for 400. he said Id also need a 500w amp which I could get for 400. Is that a decent price? Also If i got 2 id have to get an new alternator because i wouldnt be able to power it with the stock one? I dont know all that much about systems, just the basics really. I also forgot to ask him if im gonna need a new head unit, or will the stock one work?

Rep Power: 265 you should be looking at an amp that runs at 1000w rms for 1 w7 if you want 2 you will need 2 of the 1000wrms amps or 1 huge *** 2000wrms amp. you can get away with your stock alternator but i would recomend a new better battery. you will also need atlest a 4awg ampkit i would recomend 1/0awg personally and get the custom box dont put it in an rti box. as far as prices go look around then when you find the price you should call around to local shops and see what kind of a package deal you can get. and i am qualified to say that guy who told you that you need a 500w amp is a jack hole idiot.

Rep Power: 341 I've got 500w running to my 10W7 in my coupe and it's more than enough. A thousand watts might be necessary for a 12W7 or 13W7, but trust me, if you put a 10W7 in your car, you won't be disappointed. You won't need a new alternator, but you're going to want to change headunits.
As for where to buy, I'd personally rather buy audio equipment at a local shop because at least you can go strangle somebody if anything goes wrong. I've never had personal experience buying audio stuff online, but I've been told by quite a few people that JL won't honor warranties from online vendors because none of them are firsthand JL dealers. The main reason I bought locally was because I don't like to install stereo equipment, so I had a shop do everything. The prices you got were good. I paid slightly more than that, but I've had this setup in my car for nearly two years. Don't forget about the box though... the best sub in the world can still be made to sound like garbage in a bad box.
Here's a picture of my setup (JL 10W7, JL 500.1, custom box with the amp sunk into the floor.)
Oh, and by the way, W7s rock!

To get the right amp just look up what the subs RMS then find an amp that puts out the same at the same ohm rating (i think the w7's r 3 ohm). Its that simple

Rep Power: 0 i would suggest u should get a compacitor if you're going to thump 2 12's w7, cuz i have 3 10's w6 and it still drain my battery. even when i drive around thumpin and then turn my car off. so then i couldnt start my car because my battery was drain. so i got a compacitor to recharge the battery when i turn my car off.

Rep Power: 0 O no. lets not start the debate on caps again. Do caps work or not? Of couse caps work. they do suck power when your system is charging with the car on. When your electrical system starts to lose power it puts it back so you aernt losing power but storying it.

Cliffnotes: retarded
The type of sub doesnt matter b/c the amp is the one pushing the power. And the size of the amp doesnt matter just the input voltage. The amp doenst draw that much power b/c it can just amplify the power hence its name

Rep Power: 0 W7s need big boxes but all of them sound awesome. Just make sure you have the power. You might as well upgrade your charging system just so you can have it done. If you are going to compete, Usaci rewards points for an upgraded alternator.
