the 8600 is by no means bad. pioneer is an experienced and reputable company capable of creating a quality product. some will say the alpine is better, some will say pioneer. however those are all biased opinions and you would have to try both out extensively to see what is truly the best. the alpine IMO is better becuase of its processing section, but that does not mean the pioneer is second rate, it is still very good. i am sure the ipod adapter for the pioneer works good too.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and info.
I've purchased the pioneer 8600, due to the fact that it was too hard finding an authorized online dealer for the alpine 9835, and I don't want the 9855 too much on crutchfield. got my 8600 from www.cardomain.com, got it for $90 USD less than the alpine 9855 (comparing prices from www.cardomain, and www.crutchfield.com).

There isn't a glich in the 9835 it's in CDA-9855 that are manufactured before April... I have 9855 an Mrd-1005 and two 10" alpine type-Ss and it all work very sexy together... i getting ready to install my boston z series components... So im doing the time correction measurements at the same time... Alpine makes good stuff, look at the 9855 or the impossible to find 9865 which is color...

I think the deck is awesome. I'm still trying to fine tune the settings. It sounds ok now, but I know I can tune it a little better. I need more time to play around with the settings. My high's are a little to high, and my low's are getting a little distorted. Time to tone down the settings a little.
I can hear a big difference between this deck (8600mp), and my old deck (avh-p5700dvd). The SQ is a lot better on this deck, and I'm not done setting it up yet. I like how you can control the highs for both front and rear speakers seperately. The screen is pretty cool too. Hard to see the screen in the day, but that's every deck though.
No regrets buying this deck. Best deck I've bought so far.

I have the 9833 and it works great for me. i also have the ipod interface plugged into it and the amp link. great deck so far and havent had any probs...what i think is the best is the powerd internal amp. gives good power to my components in the front and my full range mids in the back.
I like eclipse but i havent actually tried one (by that i mean buy) and the same thing goes for clarion. but i have had all alpine since my first car, and dont plan on changing my preference any time soon.
