Sub box type
I have an alpine 1000 watt 12 inch sub, an alpine 1000 watt mono block amp, and a 1 farad capacitor. I built my first box ever but i don't like it. I want to build another box with more thought put in to it. I have been asking around about sealed or ported. Everyone has a diffferent opinion obviously.
My question is this: Can i run a ported box. Some people have said you shouldn't with a powerful sub like this. I want clear powerful bass.
Thanks for you time.

there is no reason why you can't have it ported. do you want it bandpass? you could go in so many directions. anyway, you could make a ported box. i suggest the sub in mounted in the middle with either 2 ports on each side or on top or on the front. i like to keep it even. you could do 3 or 4 but it might be a little too much for just one sub. unless you make the holes small. like 4 3 inch holes instead of 2 5 or 4 inch holes. think about it. and you could also go to like barnes and noble or search online to help you build it right. just try to make sure you follow the specs for the sub. what i mean by that is that the sub requires a certain amout of volume in the box. its diff when its ported or sealed. so good luck. and if you have any q's ask away. have fun

As was said above, build a box that's suited for the driver. you need to calculate internal volume, port diameter and length, distance of port from any side walls, subtracting volume of driver from overall volume of the box, internal bracing, etc.
Or just make up whatever you want, shove any port you want in there, and be happy with whatever sound happens to come out of from it when you're finished.

Be careful with your first ported box. You can destroy that sub by not doing the math.
