the giant rubber thing IS the hole in the firewall, the wire goes thru it
if you are pulling on your panels and they are not coming off, pull harder
if you are pulling on your panels and they are not coming off, pull harder
Maybe a picture of what is underneath will help:

the grommet for the fire wall is easy to find if you get on the pass side floor pull the kick pannel and the under glove box pannel then pull the carpet back from behind the center console and you will see a grip of wires follow them.
To remove the boot around the shifter all you have to do is pull up. The diy is for an automatic and it's not quite the same. Instead of pulling up using the little hole that is accesible when you open the cup holders, just feel under the boot at the front and back. Essentially these two spots are handles to remove this panel. Just make sure you've removed the shift ****, then grab the two spots under the boot and pull up. The panel should then pop up and the rest of the diy is the same as the one for the automatic. As far as the hole in the firewall just pull up the carpet on the passenger side and it's towards the center console. I just put a coathanger through it from the inside to the engine compartment and taped my amp wire to it using duct tape. Then you just pull the coat hanger back through and voila you're in business.
