I agree with JVC looking sweet.......I wanted to get one of those chameleon hu's, but decided to get something else. Anyway, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase

Once Further I shall re-itterate on this one.. The sound quality difference in 80% of Hu's when the internal amps are used is Unnoticable. When good qaulity amps are used and good quality speakers are you you will start noticing differences in Soundquality. But to tell the difference between a good HU and a Phenomally clean HU.. the rest of your Car Audio equipmant all has to be fully up to par.
RF HU's, JVC HU's, Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion, Panasonic, Eclipse,Sony(just not low end sony stuff) are all good HU's..Very reliable good quality and good signal outputs depeneding ont he models.
Mostly for aftermarket HU's used to power the speakers themselves.. the only difference you will ever notice is looks, Features and Ability to not skip. Otherwise they damn near all the same.
Hope This helps a bit.
Cheers

ive got no problem with jvc hu's sound or looks, but i wonder about the quality, hu's have to be very durable and rugged to last any amount of time in a car, especially if you have a really tight suspension, having said that i hope your jvc goes the distance and holds out for you

The JVC should last... Oly one's I would worry about really would be a panasonic HU.... Not off any experiance.. just with the displays and all the features with such a low price. I feel they may have cut back on better quality hardware. But as I've said.. nothing to back it up.. just price to features ratio makes it seem sketchy.
Cheers
Mohawk.
If Anyone has a Panasonic HU and had it for over a year how's it going..any probs?

i used to buy headunits with the 40 x 4 internal amps and i always thought that that was the way to go and it always sounded good enough! But then i put a macintosh head unit in my dakota with out internal amp and ran two ppi 800's to 3 v12 inch mcauly subs to some so/so mb quarts, and wow what a difference! it seamed that the headunit didnt have to scrap sound qulity to produce power to the speakers so it just produce very clean and crisp signals to the amps! Then i added a sound stream Equalizer and boy did it sound awesome!Dakota

Pimp.. yeah HU internal amps are small compacted and very susceptible to interferance and Distortion.. If a HU has internal amps that are ebing used then also the Signal calbles will suffer because of the strong magnetic field produced from the inter amp. ... Ampless HU's with good signal cables, good amps and good speakers offers a world of difference.. but for most people..the big improvement just an aftermarket HU offers in sound quality is night and day.....Things are changing though.. I Give it 6 more years before Car Manufactuarers begin to realize the importance of sound.. It's starting now with Acura/Bose, Ford/JBL, Chrysler/Infinity.. GM/Bose/Delco.... But to furhter improve sound quality. Proper crossovers, Alotta sound deadeing (huge difference when your driving.. less road noise lets you hear much more music.) My cars about 260lbs heavier than stock lol. I need engine mods.

Ahhh not the lost girl ploy... Must resist answering... NOoOOOoooooOooOO..
HU is a head Unit..or source unit, or deck or radio, or Blah Blah Blah.(not you Mike) lol
Depending on how you drive and if you smoke and local climate and humidity.. your HU/Deck should last..

ive had my panasonic Hu for almost a year now, and i haven't had any probs with it. Don't know the model # off hand but it's the one with all the displays and blue neon face. got it for 300 bones and it was worth it.

i have an older panasonic head unit that my friend pulled out of his 93 prelude. he gave it to me free because it had a broken cd player, but the radio still worked (i had a blank cover where the radio went in my 88 omni, so this was far better than what i had) after using it for a while the volume down button stopped working, so the only way to turn the volume down was to pull the fuse out and make the head unit lose all its settings. i ended up "upgrading" to a stock chrysler radio/tape player from my girlfriends dead 89 dodge shadow
I agree with mohawk low prices sometimes should make you take a second look at the quality, you always get what you pay for, overall JVC is alot better than in the past though. And almost always a replacement HU will most certainly sound better over stock (almost always)
I currently own a Panasonic HU and I am having loads of problems with it. After only a years worth of use the volume button as well as the button used to toggle through sub volume, fade, trebble, and the like. I paid, not a lot really, for this HU, but i did not expect the buttons to just not work anymore. I actually took the HU into the service department (Panasonic's head quarters just happens to be around the corner from me) and they told me there was nothing they could do, that it was simply due to wear. BS if you ask me.
My model was not a cheapie, I paid 330 for it, about. Oh well. I just ordered a (outdated I understand, but i want the 4 volt output) Pioneer DEH-p7300 and i'm quite excited to plop that bad boy in and pawn my old panasonic off on my unsuspecting girlfriend.

Mohawkboom: I have a Panasonic CQ-DPG550EUC. It's an awesome CD player for an older model! It has three low-level outs w/non-fading sub control, 10-sec anti-shock, super high definition bass, direct track access, detachable face, and remote control. It's about three years old. My uncle paid $350 when he bought it new, and then I paid him $200 for it. The only prob I've ever had was when the battery died in the remote!
