You mean like class A, Class a/b and Class D amps?..

Well a Class A Amp uses constant output transitors.. Which are always on.. but tend to get VERy hot..
Class A/B amps use a pair or more of transistors which constantly switch between themselves via MOSFET circuitry.

Class D amps Use Ultra efficient output transistors with very limited frequency range reproduction, Typically 20-200Hz . So they may only be used for Subwoofers.

Class "t" amps are just as efficient as class D amps but use 2 transistors at once. They use the typical Class D transistors to play low notes. A newer slightly more efficient transistor setup to produce 200-3.5khz and regular Mosfets for the highs. They also generally have Tightly would more efficient power supplies.. but are not as "clean" sounding as regular class a/b amps..

Hope this is what you're lookin for.

Cheers
