what is the rest of your system like? if it is all stock otherwise, maybe get a lower model alpine hu like a cda-9831 and get a decent pair of front speakers so you can better use the slightly improved output that you will get with your head unit

You have a forum full of people who would love to weigh in here and help you with advice. However, how could anyone suggest anything to you without knowing the details surrounding your needs. The reason why there are 42 million different types of HUs to choose from is because everyone has different want's/needs. Let us know as much info about your system, preferences, experience etc. And we'll be glad to help

If it were me, pioneer or panasonic. Those have beautiful displays. Here's a pic of my pioneer 940mp in text mode. But yea alpine and eclipse are the best known for sound quality. Don't expect it to look great. There is one alpine model with a nice display. Look for that maybe.

Yea go with Alpine CDA-9855, awesome headunit and works with Ipod. It has the glidetouch control panel, and the sound quality is awesome.

of the whole it works with i-pod or sat ready thing is like saying a tv is cable ready. you will still need another 75-150 dollar part per add on plus the i-pod or subscription.
but yeah the 9855 is bad ***. their new in dash is sweet too you can set ur eq by just runnin ur finger across the screen. its hard to explain but its sweet.

Anything from Eclipse. Eclipse makes probably the best sounding most reliable decks out there. Granted no detachable face, but honestly how many time do you take the damn face off?

I think you're giving car stereo thieves' intelligence too much credit. I've got a friend who had Eclipse's top deck from last year (8454 maybe?). Notice how I said "had". The deck might not work, but the bottom line is he's still out a window, most of his dash, and a radio. Nothing's foolproof, you could just as easily steal a deck with no face.
That said Eclipse decks sound great, and they fit your budget, so go for that or a Nakamichi CD400!

in SQ. That being said, they are more reliable than some decks, but not as reliable as Alpine, Nak or even Pioneer. The Eclipse security system = the most annoying thing ever made. I read once there was a mini union of shops forming that brought their case to Eclipse by the masses saying they would no longer sell Eclipse Hus unless they changed security systems. Just ask Tweeter Etc, and Sound in Motion why they don't carry Eclipse anymore
BTW, there are ways thieves can get around the ESN - the same the factory resets the unit after 10 wrong cds are played, and also there is a way through the Serial numbers that you can code out of the deck with a buttom combination.
the deck(dehp8mp) is cool, but the one *** system kinda sux. because if you screw up a setting you need to back out like 5 steps to get back to where you want to be.
dehp960mp is sweet if you can afford it.

well everybody thanks for all the inputs. I finally gotten the Alpine CDA-9855. Nice. Very nice unit. But i gotten a couple of concerns about the glide control. Some are saying that can easily break. So i was wondering if that is true or not and if i should get a replacement plan for the unit. Next thing that i am upgrading is the speakers since i am running on stock speakers. I want the speakers to play techno and vocal songs. And my friend recommended me Alpine speakers. So i was wondering which is the higher end speaker- the R-series or the S-series. And i know that the X-series are the best but i can't afford those since i am currently also upgrading the I/H/E and wheels for the civic. I looking at the 6 1/2" two way speaker since those are the only ones that gives better bass than the 3-way and the 4-way.
Man i finally finish putting in the car. It a hard as hell to do it for the rear speakers. I settle on the r-type speakers all around and now everything sound so GOOD. I have a question when i up the volume more than half way the sound starts breaking. Does that mean i still have to tweak the sound or does mean it doesn't have enough power???
