new headunit!!
Hey guys! Last night I got my new Kenwood headunit installed. I must say I was very nervous before I took it in, because I have heard people saying the HU's dont line up right, dont look right, whatever, in the 2K1's. But it looks GREAT, and I am really happy. One thing though...it has a flip-down face plate so you can put your CD's in behind it, and it wont flip down. The radio works, but the faceplate wont come off either. I called up the place that installed it, and they said that it is probably just a sticker on the bottom of the HU that is making it not function properly. He told me to slide a credit card unerneath the bottom right side of the HU and see if it works thenyeah i dunno. I still cant get it to work. I am going to take it back in tonight, but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem, what it is, if i can fix it myself? I dont really want to take out the HU myself.
Thanks guys!

My Friend had a Similar problem with his ALpine.. the unit would not open up properly. Did you bychance use the Scoche Installation kit.. Like 1 in 10 of those are in some way deformed..usually happens in shipping where a box gets squashed er somethin.. My Friend used the Metra installation kit and problems were solved..it all lines up better nicer fit and such.

NO WAY! I would be TERRIFIED to see what they would have done with it!
Tweeter. Heard of it? If not, it's like an electronics place.

Lucky for me, my b/f's dad is the manager at a place that does car stereo installation, so I got the wiring for my sub for free, and the installation kit at a low price, and all the free help for installation I needed.

Yea I have a eclipse head unit that opens up like that. When I first installed mine it wouldn't open all the way because of the kit being in the way...with a little playing around i finally got it to work. Does your not do anything at all when you try to open it?? If so, sounds like they screwed up. I'd take it back or get someone who knows what there doing to look at it.

Yeah, it doesnt open at all. And the faceplate doesnt come off either like its supposed to. But the radio works fine...its really weird. I have an appointment to bring it in tonight... I've messed around with it but nothing seems to work. I just hope it isnt a problem with the HU itself, cause I got the very last one out of the warehouse, they had it special shipped for me. Ah well, we'll see what happens tonight!!

Some headunits have a little screw you put in there if you dont want to remove the face. I know that my Kenwood has that. I know they use it when they have the radios on displays in stores. That might be the problem.

My friend just got that same type of kenwood. His face plate worked fine then stopped folding down.....try reseteting your systems. Pull the negative lead on the battery, or the fuse. He never did this, then shipped the HU to kenwood and it works fine for them. they were a bit preturbed about the ordeal....

On the subject of new head units.. is it just me, or has anyone else ran into lack of power issues, w/ the stock 7.5A fuse (now changed honda), and probably too small factory wiring.. i'm using the same alpine i used in my old altima and it worked fine there, now when i turn it up to a decent level, the lighting in the radio flickers (and since the fuse is a higher rating now, all that's left is the damn power wire).. is it just me, or has anyone else had to deal w/ this?
thanks

I noticed a problem with the face folding down after I installed my Kenwood too. It might not be anything with your deck. I noticed it didn't want to fold down after pressing the button because of the way the head unit is slanted back. You'll know what I'm talking about if you go out to your car and take a look at the profile of your center console. The top leans more toward the front of the car than the bottom... I just have to pull a little bit on the top of the face while I push the fold down button...
