Anyone heard the new JL W1V2s
So, I had some free time last night, so I decided to take a trip and check out the new W1V2s at a nearby shop. Now, I fully realize that I am listening to these subs in a sound room, but I did reference speakers which I know well from the same board. I gotta tell you, I found the W1s to be sloppy as hell. In fact, they felt like a pair of akward 12s.

The W1 is an entry level sub. far better than like a sony for about the same price. its to get some people who arent willing to spend $1000 on subs and an amp from them into their market anyway. Good idea JL.
Ok, no one is saying they should sound like a W7. I obviously know the difference between an entry level sub and the top of the line. If you read my post, I said I found them sloppy and akward. No entry level sub should sound like that. Unless you have actually heard this woofer, you really shouldn't comment. I don't think the new W1V2 sounds as good as the W0 did. Unless there was something wrong with that particular spot in the soundboard. or whatever.

I just bought and installed (2) 10w1v2's and I love them. Granted they are not going to blow your doors off, but you'll definitely feel it if you give'em enough power (I'm giving them 200w each). If you have good components along with the w1's, I will say its comparable to having a good home theatre system.
I too listened to other subs, but I prefer quality bass over quantity. That being said I'm still considering upgrading them to the w3v2's.

The W1's I heard were about as loud as a sony xplod hexagonal sub or whatever shape but were SO SO SO much clearer.
I truly feel the W1 is some good competition to Infinity's glorious Reference + Kappa (non-Perfect) subs since they sound almost as CLEAN but not as loud. If looking for cheap SQ, then these are awesome. If looking for cheap SPL go with some loaded bandpass enclosure for like $300 from audiobahn or whatever you can find.

That goes with all systems, but its just amplified (pun intended) when you play it on a quality stereo system.

it was probably the way they were setup (the W1v2's like small enclosure, in fact, my local shop takes 12's and cuts out the hole in a 10" box to accomadate a 12", and for some reason, they sound great.)
i heard from the JL rep this week that JL didnt anticipate such a response to the W1v2, they didnt make enough. they are supposedly on backorder until july or august.
they were a really big seller for my local shop, inexpensive woofer, great sounding, low power requirements.
i think you might be impressed with the woofer if it were properly setup.

I've installed a few of these. As a matter of fact I plan on putting a pair of the 10W1v2's in my Scion tC when it gets here(I'd go w3, but these match the silver color better, plus are at a lower price point, so I have a truly budget sub to show customers installed). I'm gonna run the pair off of a 500/1. They sound great in small sealed applications, IMO, for the price point. SQ wise, they sound better than 905 if not moer, of the competitors at this price point. Still, they're a lot more boomy than some of their other lines, as these seem to be an attempt at putting out an SQL sub, to an extent. I'm impressed enough to put them in my vehicle.
Cool. The purpose of this thread was for me to figure out if it was the woofer or just that particular experience which was off. I've heard enough that I'm confident, I need to give it another shot. I must say, I was impressed by the cone stiffness. I expected an accurate sound. I'm gonna go back to the sound room and tell the first guy I see that I won't be buying the woofer cuz it sounds like an amplified vibrator and see if he can find out what's up with the enclosure.
