Got the chance to get 2 compent sets, Focal Access 130A or Boston Pro50s. Which would you choose and why?

i have the focal utopias. i have never heard the 133v2?? the only comparable components to the focals would be an old set of Diamond Hex's or DLS components. boston, jl, and alpine are low end compared to focal and dls.
also, why would you want the music to be heard outside of your car? i can turn my system almost all the way up and very little can be heard from outside the vehicle, even with the windows open...

I applaud you for admitting you've heard some Focals but not those particular ones. I feel like people are giving opinions based on namebrands here too much. Registered!!

awwwwww..."blush" j/k yeah, i tend to be very set on the brands that i have in my car...focal, zapco, etc. most people stay with the low end stuff because of cost and never get to hear what car audio should sound like. (SQ) also, most people just throw everything in their cars without any type of equalization and tuning. the guy who built and tuned my system, Bill Acevedo from Sounds Impossible - Highlands, NJ - has had so many of his cars take first place in SQ all over the nation. Back in the 2002/2003 season (not sure if that is the right season or not), he built and tuned a mercedes that won the national finals in Charlotte, NC. needless to say, whatever he tells me, i believe.

I'm a big Boston fan but I had the oppurtunity yesterday to compare both speakers and they sound impressive. The Bostons aren't as bright but are a little bit smoother. It all depends if you want the smoothest sound possible, or something that sounds very tight when you crank it up.
I'd actually take the Focals in this case.

silk is not that bright is it? I thought metal tweets were brighter

I would go with the focals, boston tends to have a rich midrange but is lacking in high range, where as the focals tend to have a more consistent tone throughout the audible range. But then again each person likes how things sound differently, but i would recommend the focals, I sold both sets for a few years and a majority of clients prefered focals clarity and evenness as opposed to bostons richer midrange with lower highs
Ive heard the focals in many cars. they are junk. Ive never heard the bostons, and Id still take them over the access. they are just the loss leader focal put out for those without the cash for a performance oriented speaker. dont expect focal performance ifyou go with the access.
forgot to mention that a harsh tweeter is independant of its cone material. Bright'll be bright regardless if its silk, metal, cloth, pig intestine, whatever. If its smooth, its smooth.

read again, sales. *access* are junk, and you know it
. they dont hold a candle to the polykevs or polyglass or the utopias. we would have an entirely one sided thread here if he were talking polyglass or polykev! NO one would be even remotely talkin gabout the bostons, the focal's would be overly eclipsing them!
however, we are talkign about focal access. so yep! they are junk. and they focal access are junk no matter what set is in my car
