Question about my Stereo

Alright guys, i know this sounds stupid, but I was going to put a new stereo and alarm on a best buy credit card, but then my smart sense came in and told me not to get into more debt, seeing that i just paid that card off. So heres what I am thinking. I just got the civic about 3 weeks ago, and yeah the stock stereo is decent, but i just cant take it anymore, i need something to fix it up. but i dont want to be redundant in my spending seeing that in the future I will eventually put in the system I currently want. So, in that being said, how do you think it would sound, and is it even possible to get good component speakers to replace the stock ones in the front, and good 6x9's for the rear, and get a decent amp and run it to the stock deck using a cross over cable. 1) is this possible, 2) will it sound better than the stock system and 3) well, i dont have a 3 but i couldnt end at 2. comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I work at best buy so i could get all of this for about 250 or so on our discount. i dont want to replace the stock deck yet cuz i want to get the pioneer deh-p80mp later.

I also work at BBY, store 886. You can get the speakers you want to have, add a suitable amp, and connect it to the stock stereo with line-out converters. The line-out converters will be useless to you after you get the P80MP in there, but they are cheap enough not to worry about it.

What I did in my car was change the front speakers to Pioneer 4-ways being driven by a 2 channel amp, and toss in a sub box with it's own amp. I left the rear speakers stock (for now) running straight off the headunit. Not sure if you have a sedan or coupe, but in my coupe this setup rocks.

haha... so do u think running off the stock deck would sound ok for temporary? i just cant stand the way it sounds now...its sounds really, well, empty. and it doesnt go very loud before you hear distortion. I jsut want decent sound... not expecting anything spectacular for the money I will spend, but at least something decent.

Yeah, you will get good sound out of it. If you go with the stock headunit, change out all 4 speakers, and run a 4 channel amp you will be good to go. The distortion is coming from the lousy amplifier in the stock headunit combined with the stock speakers. By running the external amp to high end speakers you eliminate those problems.

Disconnect you rear speakers and leave them for dead. Add a line level convreter to the stock head unit and a 2 channel amp to power the fronts. Front speakers are your choice, although I will tell you that from best buy, I got unusually good sound out of some kenwoods -KFC 605IE I think, I did in a customer car. Anyway, You'll be plenty happy with how much it will clean up the sound.

Unless of course, you could do the SPR-17LS.

Yeah, i was going to do the 17LS speakers as soon as we get our alpine discount in the store. Seeing that those are the speakers I want to install in my desired system. I dont want to buy anything that I would have to replace when I do my good system. So I want to do it in pieces. So yeah, you think the 17LS speakers would sound good without the 6x9's in the rear? Would those speakers fulfill low mid and highs? I know they would do the mid and highs, but what about lows? I was thinking hte 6x9's would do the lows. what do u think?

IMO a good set of components up front on an amp will make it so you really don't need rears at all. For focusing on sound quality many here don't run rears at all, myself included.

I'd get a HU first, then add front speakers and an amp, and then add a sub and amp.

Then if you really think you need rears, spring for them ....

keep stock 6x9's and replace the fronts only and run them throughh an amp, with all stock you usually hear more from the rears so i would say replace the fronts only

Go with Components up front and get 6.5" coax in the back, run that on an amp. Why disconnect the rear speakers? If you want something that sounds nice replace everything stock in your car. The stock HU will still have some restrictions with the treble and bass, stock speakers are made to have treble, mid and bass, when you replace stock with aftermarket you have to get all those from different speakers, that why components are so nice, Tweeter for your highs, Mids for Mid, and Subs for your lows. I would replace everything in the car. Just my .02 cents.
