EX sail panel tweeter mount

Well, I was going though the ICE forum and noticed a lot of threads about people not being able to get tweeters in the EX sedan pods. I just wanted to post a pic to prove that it can be done. I'm sure other people here have done this so you don't need to tell me I'm not the only one, this is just for current reference. FYI: MB Quart RCE 216's, 3/4 inch tweets. These are mounted in pods facing out, and held in place by 2 screws. Looking at the sail panel, I'm pretty sure a 1" tweeter pod could be placed there. Once screwed in the pod sealed up with the panel nicely. There is a VERY small gap at the front, as in the part that is against the weather stripping. You'd have to really be looking to see it. Color matches perfectly too. Anyway, if you ahve any questions or want to see more pics, let me know.

Cool. I did a surface mount as well except the tweeter is in the middle.

Nice install, clean looking. Surface mount looks like it belongs. The only thing is, that's not exactly what people have been talking about. If you re-read your own post, you'll realize that people have had trouble getting tweeters "in" those sail panels due to wires for the mirror directly behind. In other words, a flush mounted tweeter so that the body is inside the pod and the top is on the surface.

That looks great. I'd love to be able to flush mount them with my existing panels, but there definately isn't clearance back there. I'm looking to put Kicker 1" tweeters in EX sails that I'll get from my local dealer.

Very nicely done. I'll be doing something similar with some Pioneers I just bought...good to know it can be done!

Thats another thing I was curious about. To all those people out there that are looking to flush mount, is there a reason for it other than looks? I suface mounted so that the tweeter is somewhat in line with the listeners ear, and it still isn't perfect. Just wondering.

People that flush mount do so for looks only. Sometimes it's tough to pull off a surface mount and it not be ugly - that's why I commented on yours, it looks proper. I wouldn't comment on a simple tweeter install except for the fact that it looks fairly OEM and I liked it.

I installed my Kicker Tweeters in the EX Coupes factory tweeter lacation take a look.

Had to shave just a hair out to make them fit.
You can't get any more factory looking than this.

No prob, just take your time and don't shave out too much cause then they won't fit in there snug like they should. These do not stick out any farther than the stock tweeters did. I have the 6.5" Mid installed in the door, Kicker K65.2 Components

How was that fit with the 6.5? I just ordered the KS6.2 set because I was told that a 6" would be a better fit with little to no adapters/spacers.

Well the factory speaker comes in a bracket that is made all in one, so we had to cut it out so that the 6.5 could go in, other then that it fit great, no pushing or "Making it fit" methods. I also did a Kicker 6.5" Coax in the rear, made a bracket for it too. I have a Kicker 350.4 amp on the components and coaxs

Word. Mine are one the way. I'll have to call my dealer to order the sail panels so they'll have em in by the time I get my components.

I just used the ones that housed the stock tweeters already. Didn't have to order anything.

Well I have an HX so all I have is the smooth sail panels. I guess I could surface mount them for free, but I think *most* surface mounts look cheesy. They're only ~$7 at the dealer.

Are you sure that the tweeter-pod sails fit your 01 HX?

ooh, ooh! look at mine!

'03 EX sedans apparently don't have the factory tweeters like the EX coupes, but this looks stock, and unlike the stock tweets, they're adjustable

Well the interiors are exactly the same aren't they? The only thing that's different between the coupe sails is one has a hole for the manual mirror, one has a tweeter pod, and the last is smooth. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Being able to adjust the tweets is a huge plus and if I can pull off a surface mount without it looking bad, that's what I'll do. Function over form, I guess.
