Nav is still pricey. Even a good portable unit still cost about $900-$1200 (from garmin or magellan). Why not spend the extra cash and buy a Pioneer avic-n2? It retails for $1999 but integrates and screen, dvd, nav, satellite ready,mp2/wma,and vehicle dynamics.
There may be some universal units out there that will allow you to integrate it with your screen (provided your screen has extra a/v inputs). Just remember to avoid the cheap ones (check out some reviews on Cobra navigation piece....horrible review!)

i think a carputer would be the best bet the go. I thought about buying one of those universial units, but building a carputer system would almost cost the exact same, but you can upgrade it and do all those things.

You have one problem though! I still dont know any company that makes navigation software for Mexico! Save your money, if thats where your gonna use it, if your gonna use it in the states then its worth it.

When your driving around, how often do you not know exactly where you are. I mean sure on road trips to foreign citys it may be helpful but I find navigating new cities is part of the fun.
When I drive to the US the interstate system is so bloody easy and logical I dont see why you would need one.
Car puter is cheaper then the N2 and can do everything your home computer can, and the N2 makes it real tricky to watch dvd's while driving since it reads your ecu
i think the cheapest you can get is a PDA with GPS...i got the Palm Zire 72 gps, it comes with a gps reciever and a software from tomtom navigation...for me it works good, portable and multifunction, got a built in camera, mp3 player, can watch video clips and more....i got mine $700 CANADIAN dollars, thats probably round $4 us dollars.(j/p) i dunno the convertion, but its way cheap than other portable GPS....

does that work in your car? or do you have to leave it on your dashboard / trunk tray? Is there a possibility of external antenna.
