newbie question
sorry for the dumb question
On crutchfield, it says that our coupes run 6.5 inch speakers in front and rear
I thougth it was 6.5 front and 6x9 rear. I'm thinking of pioneer all around. No sub, but a simple amp. Do I need a four way amp? How much watt?
Also, can u tell the diff between 5 way and 4 way speakers?

You are correct, coupes have 6x9s but 6.5" fit easily with an adapter. Actually, I checked it out and can't even see where on crutchfield it says that coupes have 6.5s? One of the speakers they recommend IS a 6x9 and they wouldn't do that if they thought the deck took 6.5s b/c they would not fit.
Allthough I'll admit never having heard them, I can't imagine Pioneer's 4-way or 5-way speakers are very good. It seems to me to be a marketing ploy appealing to masses of more-is-better car audio shoppers who would tend to think that 20 speakers in a car will always sound better than 4. The real problem I have with the 4 or 5-ways is that in order to seperate frequency in a single cluster of speakers, they have to resort to using tiny-*** speakers for midrange and in order to inflate the number of speakers, they use 2 tweeters? 2 Tweeters mounted next to eachother simply cannot be advantageous in my opinion. And 2" speakers are not ideal midrange drivers. I think they'd be better off allowing the cone to play the frequency range. Especially when you consider using these as rear speakers, they should be fill speakers and have no part of frequency seperation, imaging or anything else the like.

As for amp-ing it; Get a 4 channel amp that outputs ~50 watts RMS and no more. Thats alot of power for 4 speakers, 50 watts each. make sure your speakers are rated for the same or more watts RMS than the amp can output.
Look at the bottom link in my signature...i have TONS of info there for you peole who are a little unsure on this stuff.
Most people who focus on true sound quality don't even run rears since it kills the soundstage. Ideally get a small amp for the fronts and forget about the rear speakers all together. Anything in the 40-75 watts should due the job quite nicely. Trust me.
In my experience Pioneer speakers get an undue bad rap. I think they make nice speakers for the price, but they are power hungry. They almost always need to be on an amp to sound good. When not on an amp they sound like ***.
