I'm in the market for a new deck and could use a bit of advice.

Its a glide strip and from what I have heard It's very useful when browsing through an Ipod. I don't have an Ipod, but the audio shop I use had the 9853 on display and I though it worked pretty good. You just slide your finger across it and press where you want it. Like many have said [and I also agree], this is a huge marketing ploy. I just think that it is pretty cool and will probably be the only unit with it for a few months until Pyle or Jensen or some **** like that comes out with the same idea and try to market it like they reinvented the wheel.

Do you think I can match CF or silver trim with the KI Ivory color? Nah, doesn't look good unless it goes wood grain to match it..

Pioneer DEX-P9 plus DEQ-P9 and the upcoming Alpine F#1 DVI-9990 couple with PXI-H990, for which the P9 combo is far less expensive than F#1 combo. Looking for retail $2500 and $7000, respectively. I know nobody in this forum will actually looking into those, right?
I believe F#1 comes in as a complete set, retailed well over $20,000. The new line consists of DVI-9990, PXI-H900, SPX-Z18T 3-way pair, SPX-Z15M center, SPX-Z15M x2 rear, and at least 3 MRV-F900 to complete the whole system(without video). While the SPX-Zxx speakers are actually Scan Speak Revelators, exact same drivers for ring radiator($450 each), and 4" and 7" cone(4 ohm version, around $200 each at Madisound), and 5" cone($200 each). Retail price of SPX-Z18T is $3500 while SPX-Z15M is $1500. MRV-F900 costs $3500 each, 2 of them are recommended by Alpine to run an active 3-way front system(one for tweeter and woofer, one bridged from 4 to 2 channel to push the 4" midrange). No price has set up for DVI-9990 and PHI-H990 yet. But each of them will not be less than $2500. Alpine has started to get away with Ai-Net to incorporate IONBus and IEEE1394 link for connections, which will offer true digital, or at least higher bandwidth analog between components(that's where the I comes from).

I have a Pioneer and it works just as good as the first day I bought it and its been about a year and a half. I never owned anyother CD player so I can't really say which company I think is better.

OK guys. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices.
Pioneer Premier DEH-P770MP

And the
Alpine CDA-9851

Any advice? The Premier is lookin slightly better at the moment. I just want to hear em both and see if I like that Rotary Commander thing. I dropped my price bracket so I can get a set of components with the money I would have spent on a slightly better deck. I'll be making a new thread when I narrow it down to 3 or so component sets.

[/QUOTE]The CDA-9851 is a SwingFace head unit with a wide range of sound personalization functions from Alpine's signature Bass Engine controls. In addition to playing all CD's, MP3 and WMA discs, now you can drive your iPod. Just hook up the KCA-420i iPod interface adaptor, plug in your iPod, and you're ready to go. Plus it's Versatile-Link Ready so you've got the option of connecting a video game console, VCR, or other source, This unit is OEM Steering Remote Ready so you can still control your head unit conveniently from your steering wheel. thats from www.pricegrabber.com
how does connects a video game or vcr work with that? like so you can hear the sound through it and need another video source?

Actually Alpine has a better user interface than any other HU on the market. The term user interface means the grouping of function and ease of adjustment without actually have to look into the face to see what function that is.

alpine all the way. I just got a 9835 and love it ! SQ is just amazing, I can stand by it to death. nice interface, grafix are shafty and u get bored of them, and nice power output. You need to install it directly to the battery due to its high current rating.

wow, alot of the stuff you guys are talking about sounds like another language to me! Im such a noob when it come to audio.
What would I be looking for if I'm just going for Sound quality with stock speakers and no amp? I don't listen to hip hop so I don't need a buttload of bass.
any suggestions?

Go with any Alpine that has 3-way setup option(Bass Engine Pro), any 9833/35/55 will work. Get a pair cheap DOME tweeter off Crutchfield with no passive crossover. Front powering tweeter, rear powering door woofer. Set the tweeter high pass to tweeter spec, then you have a very basic SQ set up before you get into more advanced topics, which might happen later.
Note: 9851 and 9853 doesn't have 3-way and no EQ also.

The whole thing is that I want to get a decent HU and also be able to get a decent set of components, that are planned to run off HU power, all for about $300. All eBay prices btw. It looks like the Pioneer wins this round. I guess I'll have a higher end deck sometime in the future. Being poor sucks. Thanks to everyone for all of your advice and opinions! Feel free to continue to add info.
It is good to learn from very basic so you don't spend too much at first. But there may be some more routes you can go without actually have to double spend on a same item. Because I was once on the route with keep buying and selling, for a while. I don't want this to happen to you, you know.
