sub install questions
Hello,
I have a 2001 civic sedan. I currently have infinity components setup in the front and amped at 100Wx 2 RMS (4 Ohms). Now I would like to add a subwoofer. My only concern is the strain on the electrical system. I would like to do this using the factory alternator/battery. So here are my questions:
1. Would one 12" sub woofer be enough bass? I want some good bass, but not too much (ie. its not all I want to hear).
2. Would my alternator/battery be able to handle it? I think I can already feel the strain on my electrical system with just my two amped front speakers.
3. Would you recommend a second amp for the subwoofer, or just one amp for the front speakers and sub. I am assuming one amp would take less current.
4. Any subwoofer/amp recommendations? I was thinking of getting an infinity perfect 12" sub. Not sure what amp though.

One sub should be great for what your doing, but If your going to do it, just do it and dont assume that you will need an upgrade before you hook it all up. You may not need anything. That way you don't end up wasting money.
well i use to have 2 10 JL in my trunk hooked up to my audiobahn amp and when i would pound it i noticed that my lights were lookin a lil dim ... and when i would be drivin at night poundin the system .. i would roll my windows up and i can see my headlight kinda dim out a lil

i've had one sub and two subs pushing about 1200 watts total and had no issues besides some dimming. after I added a alumapro cap things stop dimming so bad. Just go ahead and do what you want to because regardless your going to have some eletrical strain. Even rolling down windows.

A single 12 or even a single 10 will be sufficient for boom, as long as you tune it properly. And while you'll get a little dimming when cranked, you should be OK. I recommend upgrading the power (ie alt-batt) and ground wiring in the engine bay as well. I think I mentioned this in passing to you when I was at your place a few weeks ago, but I was cold and tired, so I may just be imagining things.
