OMFG.. hits himself

lol. ok so i was hooking up my first amp yay to my front speakers. so i started new with wiring the whole damn car (first time)

so amp everything wired. i know my wiring perfect cause i jsut do a lot of it lol

so i ground and power the amp..

nothing
it lights up and such.. kinda. i get red protection lamp

so to me. i think i ****ed it up.
J187 tells me it may be grounding threw the rca's which is enough to light some led's

so anway. tonight on my way home i pop the trunk and detach my ground. i try it in a few places. one gives me a spark. so i knew thats wut it was

so i ram the lil basterd into the latch of my upper trunk part. turn on the system and it works.. now i need to find a proper ground

im an idiot for not testing my grounds

but it woorks only one major **** up for my first time

You can ground anywhere in your trunk. You need to sand off the paint, otherwise it will not ground. Did you try to ground somewhere with paint on it before?? or now??

when I first threw a sub in my car (just to have SOME bass) I grounded the amp to the screw pole thing that holds the spare tire steady. g-h-e-t-t-o but it worked.

Usually anyplace where there's double metal in the back or where there's spot welds, you can ground there. Just kind of "landmarks" so to speak, to look for when grounding.

I used an all copper hex-screwdown clamp from a electric pole and mounted it on the rear-passenger side seatbelt bolt. It worked awesome and the wire path is pretty short.

Where to ground? Anywhere you feel like scraping, sanding, whatever, removing teh paint and running a sheetmetal screw in there. Make sure you remove all paint. Another option is to go back to the rear (near the latch) of the trunk. Take out the plastic piece. You should see a green ground bolt with about 6 wires attached to it. You can ground on that without having to drill a new hole. There are hundreds of options.

If you do sand away the paint, screw your connector over the bare metal and then hit it with a quick coat of primer so it doesn't rust.

keep your ground short

You want to keep your ground wire as short as possible, usually less than 2ft is the preferred lenght. Bolt it down good to bare metal and you should be good to go.
