break-in period for subwoofers?

do new subwoofers really need there break-in periods? if yes, how many days estimate would u say of soft playing music?

what are the pros and cons?

cause i completely forgot and pushed the sub hard to test its potential

I know all kicker subs require a break in period. all it means is that when it get to that break in point the sub will reach its max exursion and have its best sound/spl

I believe my owners manual w/ my TypeRs talked about a break in period of 20hrs.. I remember seeing that somewhere.. but I never took em to full potential until long after I'd had them.. 600rms is more than I need so 1/2-3/4 was more than enuf when I had em...

You will probably notice a slight increase in performance after they have broken in.

just play them soft for like a day or so, you don't want them blowing "sooner"

RF, JL, Alpine etc all have break in periods for subs its mainly for the new amps rather than the sub itself but if you have a pre fab box it needs to be broken in for sealing mainly. Otherwise you can play them easy at start then as they warm up your good to go.

There is a break in period...however it varies from company to company..some require it some dont....but its a good rule of thumb to give them a few days to a week before you start pounding the **** out of them...just use your head and u should be fine.....oh and in cold weather let them warm up before you pound them that can crack either the cone voice coil (s) or the rubber ring......USE YOUR HEAD and you'll be fine..

Thats not necessarily true. Break in periods are mostly to extend the life of the sub, but some subs won't sound full potential until they warm up. Maybe it takes couple days or so. Break ins don't do much and I wouldnt' worry about it if you didn't do it. But I've never met anyone who damaged a sub by slowly breaking it in. Who knows if damage has been caused by not doing so? . . . .

i remember i had to "break in" my whole system for about a month and a half before i could have it tuned. but then again, that was just to tune it. if they tuned it right away, it would have to be done again once broken in. if you don't plan on tuning your system, i don't see any need to have a long break in period...maybe just a day or so...?
