rear speakers

Whats up guys. I gotta question about my speakers and why they don't sound good. haha...

OK so a couple days ago was the first time i actually sat in my backseat while driving around. I told the guy driving to turn up the music real loud so I could hear what people in the back hear. and well...i know my sub isn't the greatest..but i thought my 6x9's were alright. I have some fosgates back there...but they're not amped up. Well i was surprised when i actually heard them...they're not real clear at all...i think my stocks sounded better. if i amped them up would that make 'em sound better? if not...do they just suck? or am i doing something wrong

Personal I dont like fosgate speakers. I think they are cheaply made. But amping them would probally make them sound better. Also there might be some stuff you need to change on your HU. If you dont know exactly how to do it the best way to do it is turn it up to a volume you usally listen to music at and adjust everything from bass to treble to whatever else there is in there until it sounds clear.

I would change the fosgates to something else. And i know there are some die hard fosgate guys out there that will probally flame me for this. But ive had very bad experience with many fosgate products.

Imaging is a huge part of how good a speaker will sound. For best imaging you want the speakers in front of you equal distances apart. The farther away the better so the sound has some time to develop. Rear speakers totally blow this concept out of the water. They are behind your head and about as close as you can get to them. IMO theres nothing you can do. Honestly most here that focus on sound quality don't run rears. I know I don't in any of my vehicles.

Exactly. Try turning the volume to what you consider "loud." Now listen to the rear speakers, how noticeable are they? Fade the sound forward slowly until a point where you are no longer sure the rears are on. Move your head back slowly, and you should say OK they are on. Now fade it one more notch and leave it alone. Now you have "rear fill," and you'll probably find the rear speakers sound substantially better, with much less distortion for those unlucky rear passengers.

Fading forward for us sedan owners isn't an option cause all the bass comes from the rear mostly with the 6.5 speakers. Just throw some dymamat on the rear deck. I think mine sound decent, but they're amped.

On my clarion VRX745VD in my SEDAN its faded about 2/3 front because I have subs.
curve is very strong...lotsa bass and good amount of treble. No bass to speakers though..they are stock. treble is +4db at 12,000hz and bass and mid is even.
Non fader volume(subwoofer) is +3 or +2 depending. +6 is max and is horribe with clipping/distortion. +2 is perfect for most songs but my new video cd needs +3. When playing Xbox i leave it at +2. adds alot of bass but is still alright sounding.
very much forward.
For those of you who cant figure out what that HU is...

You have subs Manthatguysfast?

Well I'm talking about no subs in this case. Obviously it's better to fade front and use the sub for bass.

yeah but usually rear speakers suck quality wise cause of such a huge open enclosure they are in (trunk). if you get baffles they will help alot (enclose the speaker in by the back)

that's the plan. I'm gonna get some back wave circles and a foam cup of some kind to put in there. It sounds okay now too, just could be better.

rear speakers are for ambience, clarity should come from the front. Either way, fosgate is crap in my opinion, right up there with sony.

thats very correct and alot of people competing in sound quality competetions will not use rear speakers at all.

jttegx has a spectacular aura aboutjttegx has a spectacular aura about
need to adjust.

i have 6x9 in the rear and i pretty much use it for the "mids/bass" off the speakers. there 3ways if it matters and running off deck power. IMO they were much better than the factory ones. after replacing my 6x9s, i didnt notice any increase of overall sound stage level, but more clear and crisp. i have my preset off the deck so its treble up front and bass rears. my lows are up, mids a little bit above, and left the highs at 0. i never go back there so i can care less if my passengers are listening to distorted "bass"

hope that helps

I just installed a set of mid-price Kenwood's back there, and I love the way they sound. I do exactly what MassHayhem does-turn them up to the point where you can tell they are on, but that's it. I like feeling the sound stage is all around me, but too much rear speakers means you hear things twice, and that's not good.

Also, sound deaden your rear deck, like Gearbox said. If you are *only* doing your rear deck, use Cascade VB series of deadeners. They are extremely costly, but work better than the rest, for small jobs.

Finally, be sure your speaker has a good air-tight seal with it's mounting surface. If's it's not anchored well, it will resonate when it makes midbass and bass.
