questions about setup
questions about setup
heres what I have so far
-(1)Diamond Audio D612" 4 ohm voice coils
-Sony CDX-7700x blue specialty
-Exonic Mobile 7 inch screen(dash piece where headunit usally is is custom moldered for screen and is ready for paint)
-Snail shell type box custom made for d612"
-(2) sets DLS audio PS6 - 2-way system 6,5"
ok now for my questions
Im thinking just the box on the floor in the trunk nothing special but I no longer have the pieces in the trunk. I ordered everything but the floor carpet(still have),wooden floor plus spare and parts. I was wondering what you guys have used or would use to make a foor the sub and amps can sit on. I could use 3/4 in masonite(sp?) like the box is made out of but I think its kinda heavy.
Also looking for a place to put my head unit. I have a new stlye ps2 that is installed into the glovebox and theres a screen where my headunit should be. I was thinking either in the center counsul with the detachable face piece and face itself would be where the cig lighter is but I'd have to solder onto the circuit board and lenghthen with wires(like 20) to make that work. I also thought I can just put the whole unit where the cig lighter and custom mold it but it looks like there isnt much space and it might stick out kinda far. Need input.
Also I haven't chosen an amp yet for the sub or speakers so input on that would also be greatly appreciated. I dont want cheap but I dont need the super high end. Just some nice amps(preferbaly two)that would compliment my other items. I have looked at the DLS ultimate A4 for the speakers and DLS ultimate A6 for the sub just to give you an idea.
I was also thinking of replacing the Sony CDX-7700x with a Sony CDX-m8815x or something similar from eclipse but im open for suggestions.
I can get pics of anything I have listed if you guys want to see
Thanks in advance and lets try to keep this thread clean

J187 relocated his HU down in the cig lighter area. Doesn't stick out much at all (he retained cup holder functionality). Just recess it far enough and it shouldn't be a problem.
I made perchs for mine and now fiberglassing over them, priming and paint the same color as my car.

Sounds like a sweet setup, I have 2 diamond audio TM3 subs. If you just run the one sub, that DLS amp would be superb, however, if you were to get a second sub I would recommend an amp that is stable down to 1 ohm. (i.e. JL 1000.1, Alpine V12 class D, etc....). I have dual 2's on mine and they are wired as follows: the dual coils are in series, and the subs to the amp are in parallel, which maintain the 2 ohm load. I am using a JBL 600.1, which is made to run at 2 ohms thus pounding the bejesus out of my subs. With your dual 4's wire the one sub in parallel and this will produce a 2 ohm load, which the DLS should handle. IF you get a second, wire both the voice coils and the subs in parallel and this will be a 1 ohm load. BUT the only other option, other than wiring independently(which would require a 2 channel amp), is to wire the coils in series and the subs in parallel which will make a 4 ohm load.
I always prefer either 2 or 1 ohm, just because it hits harder, thats just me. I am also building a tuned ported box for my subs which will go easier on the amp.
Hope to hear what you go with.

ok so I came accross another d612 in. 4 ohm and also a d615 in. also 4 ohm both brand new just like the other d612 in. 4 ohm.. So I guess I need a **** load more power and I might do a custom fiberglass enclosure where my back seat is and more fiberglass for the amps were your back rests(color matched to the car of coarse). The thing is my brother owns a shop and graduated from mobile dynamics and always wants to go way over the top since I am his brother so he gave me those subs and wants to go nuts in my car. The amps will be on me but the subs are a gift from my brother. What do you guys think keep the one sub with the dls amps I have listed or have my bro go nuts and go with different amps and prob more speakers also. Im more into speed but I do love to bump. Also since my bro owns a shop I get dealer prices so this wont put me in the whole but will be alot more expensive than my original idea. This is also going to be my like my 6th differnt system so Im starting to think go big or forget it.

Its all personal preferance, if you are more go than show, another sub will add weight, buuuuuuuuut, two 12's compared to one is a huge difference. I would personally go with two, sport the fiberglass, get a strong name 1000, 1200, 1500W monoblock amp, and **** people off with low hertz.
First off,

Second,
If you are going to move just the faceplate there, use Cat5 cable to attatch the HU to the faceplate.

yea I origonally built the snail shel box to have one 12 in sub but have it hit as if I had a couple back there. I like what you did with your head unit J187 and will probaly do something similar.
also if I wanted to **** people off with low hertz I think I would stay with my single sub setup. My box is perfectly mated with my sub and with the dls amps I have listed would make for one hell of a setup that would put most peoples 12's, 15's to shame.
also cat5 cables are what they use for ethnet right. If so then a cat5 cable would not work for what I want to use it for. Im talking about when you take off your faceplate from the headunit you see where the faceplate contects to the unit there are like 20 little prongs that meet with another 20 or so prongs on the face plate.
