i want a custom...
... 7" screen molded into the double din slot. my question is: what dvd/gps unit should i purchase to go with it? are all screens compatible with dvd/gps units? I plan on getting a touchscreen vga quality 7" monitor, how would the gps/dvd unit interface with it?
You might be better off going with a all in one unit like the pioneer avic n1. If you are looking for a dvd/gps unit in one i dont really know of one but mabe others will. Yes all mobile dvd players are capatible with your screen.
PC GPS programs are far superior because of our ability to customize or mod it.

Car puter is an option with the lilliput touch screen as your vga. More info on building all of this can be found at www.mp3car.com
id suggest agasint molding it in. looks nice, but isnt functional.
expect tons of work to get the GPS working well, too, compared to a software designed for the car.
can work well, but just expect more work.

my biggest concern is where to mount the pc. I plan on going with a via c3 because they put out little heat and thus will require a slow or no fan. my other concern is that will bumps fkkkk my hdd up?

As far as I have read about car PCs the hd doesnt mess up becasue of bumps. Well it depends on the HD you use. If u dont want to build the PC yourself or if you do i recommend going to http://www.carcpu.com/ I have a few friends who have there setup and it works flawless. If you do want to built it yourself atleast buy there chasis with there PSU. They have it so it boots to winxp in almost the amount of time it takes most radios take to start playing.
Also the drivesoft Software is the best. Very easy to use and install but this is just my opinion.
