Help on speedometer readout question !!

Just wondered if any one might know about a problem I am having and what it might take to fix it , I have a 2000 Honda civic and the odometer quit working showing the total mileage, It seems like it went out about the time I had to try to jump start the car a few times and then the mechanic said it needed a new battery which fixed the starting problem but after putting in the new battery the odometer hasn,t worked since, Does any one know how I can get my odometer fixed , I did talk to one mechanic who said it could be a eprom chip possibly , if this is the case can I replace this item , he said it was just behind the dash and is soldered in and is easy to repair, has any one had to replace there chip and wondered if it was costly, since I will have this car several years or until it doesnt run any more so the mileage isnt to important to me but I would rather know the miles driven for oil change purposes other wise I would leave it blank and just change the oil about 3 times a year since I only drive it about 12000 miles a year any way, thanks

The eeprom is flash rom, and corrupting it is quite possible. The chip may not need to be physically replaced, a simple reflash may solve your problem, or it may not. However paying someone to troubleshoot your cluster problem will cost more than replacing your entire cluster.

was the new battery you put in the appropiate model? like all numbers match (crank amps, etc etc). ?

if yes, im gonna guess maybe a wire went loose behind your guage/dash. try banging ur dashboard or gauges a little to see if it that may help? not too hard tho so it breaks lol.

if i were you, i would goto 3 different shops that expertise in electical and see what they have to say. first, solve the problem but figuring out what exactly it is, then talk about fixing/repairs.

goodluck

or for around $100-$200 you could get a new probably better looking (03-04) cluster with less head ache

You would have to custom fit it since the bezel size in the 00 is different then the 01+
