Oh, the old can underpowering a speaker blow it? NO! Can a person with an underpowered speaker cause it to blow? Sure. However, underpowering a speaker in itself won't do anything to harm it. It will cause the introduction of distortion wich sucks, but it won't blow a speaker until you jack the volume up beyond what the speaker can handle. Most likely, the distortion that often accompanies underpowering a speaker probably is responsible for people thinking their speaker is blown, as most people that are not very familar around car audio will think that any static in a speaker means its blown.Where the Fk is my signature!?!?! I hate the picture handling of this forum damnit!

i have an alpine 9831...i was on the highway listening to xm, and when the o&a show goes to break, their levels are all messed up, and it was hardcore loud, and now when i listen to music a little louder than normal, it sounds all distorted. i dunno if its blown, but it sounds like it is.

my blown speaker story...
this thread is dumb...so here's my story...maybe it'll make up for the dumba$$ original post...
i just bought another KX1200.1, and i hooked it up to the power, ground, and signal cables in my roommate's truck to make sure everything worked...the power light came on, but i wanted to check the speaker outputs as well...i'm still working on the box for my subs, and my roommates' subs (one has a S10L5, the other has a pair of Fosgate P1 12"s) can't handle the power, so we got the great idea to hook up a pair of factory 6"x9"s from a '00 Civic instead
...i turned the bass boost up all the way, cranked the gain up about 2/3, and put in my Bass Mekanik CD...apparently the lifespan of 15-watt speakers is about 4 seconds when introduced to a sweeping sine wave at about 80 times that much power
...
anyway, i learned that a) the amp works fine, and b) fried voice coils smell like a$$...
i have a Polk GNX 10" laying around my garage...i'm going to strap the two KX1200.1s i have together and see how it handles a couple thousand watts, and then i'll post a link to the video...damn, i need a life
