wattage ???

If I have 2 400 watt RMS subs wired together to an amp in one channel would that mean i need something around 400 watts in 1 channel or 800 watts in 1 channel ?

Well, i'll assume the subs are 4 ohm single voice coil since that is mostly the norm. When you hook up the sub, there are two ways you could hook them up, parallel or series. In series, you'll make 8 ohms, which wouldn't be very good for power. in parallel, i think you'd be makind 2 ohms, whicn would be great for a nice monoblock amp stable at 2 ohms. it will need to be either 800 watts at 2 ohms or 800 watts at 8 ohms (very unlikely).
