amp cutting in/out

Alright, after about half an hour of driving with sub on. The amp will cut out for a second or two and then comes back on, once it starts doing it it will do it once about every five minutes. At first I thought it was excessive heat but I put the seats down and didn't make a difference. I 've now got a volts gauge and the needle bounces with the bass from almost 14v down to 12v. I've only got a sony 1200w (500 continuous) amp and a sony 700w 10" sub. Also I have a 1.5 farrad cap, didn't make a difference.

Any suggestions/ideas
Thanks

You're going to have to tell us a litle more. Is the amp going into protection or completely losing power? Or maybe the amp is bad.. it IS Sony.. haha time to buy something better. Also, a cap isn't a new alternator/battery. You should of gotten those things first and then a cap.
