No, I wouldn't buy a cap at all, personally. The cap is feasible in the situation the thread describes because A) the person is wanting to combat dimming. B) he's wanting to do it by as cheap a means as possible. Caps are cheaper than a battery, most of the time. If it were me, and I were buying a cap (which I'd never do,but for the sake of the topic say I am). I wouldn't buy just what I need (.5 farad per 500 watts. So a 1 farad because I'm leveled just below 1kw). I'd buy double or triple the farads generally used/recommended because I like headroom. Gives me space for expansion. Having more isn't going to do anything to the amps, it's not going to increase the voltage, etc. So I'm good with a solid 3 farad cap on my 1kw load, but I'd have room to run up to 3kw, should the need arise.

Another thing to take into consideration, and possilby the most point worthy I'll make: You're on a Civic Forum. 95% of the people here aren't looking to spend a ton of money on their car. They are looking for the cheapest way out the majority of the time. Caps and/or battery would be the easiest way out in this situation.
