Its second to mcintosh, but WOW you should HEAR the sound, right now all is stock, but still amazing....can't wait to upgrade
Nakamichi cd-400..
Nakamichi cd-400..
I don't know if you all know this or not, but basically Nak went out of business about 1.5 years ago, due to quality problems. In the end of their days the ongoing joke was if you buy a Nak, buy two, cuz it will have problems! They were bought out by a new company, Nak-USA, who have simplified and streamlined their product line. We have only done a couple of them (the 400's) , and they seem to be OK at best. Nice looking, but kinda cheap feeling, sound Q is nowhere near the previous Nak decks, but Ok regardless. Hope you knew about all this and didn't buy it by their reputation!

Ahem...I did know they went bankrupt a couple years ago. Did their product really change? I have owned the 35z (1bit), then upped it to the 45z(20bit), and I must say, build wise, the face on the CD400(24bit) is alot stronger for non-asian hands (bigger buttons) and not so flimsy. Ejection of CD's take a millisecond compared to the 45z. 45z was an awesome sounding deck, however, mechanically not as good as the 400. I have only owned the deck for a week now, but will say it is brighter than the 45z. However, this is a direct cause of factory fronts/mounted tweets. Until I upgrade the fronts from factory will I compare the sound. I think one difference is the 8-times oversampling filter, which is not on this model but on the 700II and on the old 45z. But for $260 bucks, it def a deck that is worth it..
I bought it because I know the sound it reproduces, if anything the crappy part of owning a nak is that you can pick out if a song has a bad recording, and hear the hiss...
I can't comment on reliablity as of yet, past decks have been reliable, so wait and see.

This nakcd400 was $282US including shipping etc brand new off of ebay (ebay user indoaudio). He sells ALOT of audio equipment on ebay. The bad thing about the user is he never has the item in stock, so shipping takes forever. But I had to buy off ebay, as not alot of dealers where I am DO NOT stock nakamichi. I originally was looking at the NAKcd500, however, that one is not that common so even harder to get, will have to wait a bit to get that one (its mp3 capable).

Have you owned a Nak? Once you've owned a Nak you don't go back..lol
Yes pioneer or alpine are good brands, but I know the difference in sound...
Here's is an example, you get in your car in the morning, turn it on and realize holy **** this sounds awesome. Its a uniquie thing when you hear stuff on a song you've never heard before. Here is the main difference between Nak and other decks, its an extraordinary experience listening to a song at full on a Nak, where you don't lose any quality in sound AT ALL, whereas others you do...(decks similarly priced).
