do i need a cap?
i just bought 2 kicker VR 12's that are gonna be running at 4ohm, and a kicker sx450.2 amp is going to be powering them. And i have a optima yellow top under the hood. I have had 2 older VR 12's before in my old car running off a 760 sony amp and they worked fine with out one. so do you think a cap would be a worth while investment?

you never *need* a cap, it is just a good rule of some for a stock electrical system (or even stock alt with big battery). it will help stop your lights from dimming if they do, as the cap will provide a burst of current when your amp demands it. rule of thumb is .5 farad for every 500 watts of power, so consider that and decide for yourself.

Do you need one? Install it, see if your lights dim when the subs draw current. If they dim, and it bothers you, a cap will be a worth while investment. Will it hurt your electrical not to have one? Not in any way, shape or form. The only thing a cap does is help combat dimming. If dimming doesn't bother you, don't spend the money on one.
