What do you think of this?

I'm thinking about buying this.
http://www.eclipse-web.com/avx_avx2494.html

I can get it from my shop for $800. Anyone have any experiences with this? No customer has every bought one so I've never really gotten to play around with it too much other than on our sound board.

looks sweet. I loved my Sony MEX-1HD just to not have to mess with CDs anymore and a 10GB HDD wasn't bad for my car. Never got around to swapping the 60GB drive I wanted to drop into it.

I have no experience with it, but it looks gravy. The only thing is, you can get an IRiver mp3 player that has the same features and is portable for 1/3 of the price...

Well it's really funny because yesterday I was saying how much I love my cd player.. I've got a Kenwood eXcelon and I've never had problems with it.. I think it's a KDF-X717 or something like that. Anyways, I've had it for almost 4 years now. I bought it new for $699 or something like that. But yesterday, the motor on the detatchable face went out (I knew it would sooner or later) so it's finally done. I got my cd out but now it won't turn on at all.. So I know it's the deck. Anyways, I've been looking at this cd/dvd/20GB drive all night and today so I'm just trying to get other peope's opinions. And I'd be happy with 20 GBs.. I'm on a laptop built in 2000 with a 6 GB hard drive so I know I don't even have that many MP3s!!

IRiver's are crap though. When I was working at CompUSA, about 20 of the first 250 we sold came back defective... be careful with these.

I hated to get rid of my Sony, but I got an awesome offer on an Apline IVA-D300, so I decided to upgrade... you'll love the change to that Eclpise, I'm sure...

I have the money (ahhh tax returns) but the only other company that I know of that makes a double din screen (a non fold out one) is kenwood eXcelon and my shop doesn't carry that so.. that means no discount.

Not worth it. It uses the ATRAC3 format. It's a proprietary format that Sony developed. Basically, it's going to take your MP3s and re-encode them into this new format. I don't think you can re-decode the ATRAC3 back to MP3. I'd be very leary of buying this HU. That's just me.

I WISH my deck was fine. My kenwood has all the features of a $400 cd player nowdays so it was doing me just fine even if it was old. I mean yeah, now I have a reason to replace it, but I was kind of wanting to wait until after valentine's day but my gf drives my car too and she'll be like, "wtf" when there's no music so she might understand haha I don't know, or she might be pissed too.. hmmmmmm.. well, either way I'm getting this and after vday I'll just be broke as a joke until payday again.

Yes but I can delete them off the unit if I'm tired of it.. and I'll still have them as mp3 on my cds.

No, the problem is that with the ATRAC3 format, the encoding is **** and the files are huge. The 20GB won't go quite as far as you'd think. Basically, think of converting all of your MP3s to WMA format and think how much space they would take on your HDD on your computer, and that's close to what you'll get on then HDD from that headunit.

Kenwood makes one that I thought was kinda sick, not sure of the model though.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head... I know that Clarion had one a few years ago, maybe check with them

dual = absolute worst **** known to car audio. Heard dual 6.5s once. I almost puked in my mouth. Sounded like someone whistled and farted at the same time.

it doesnt. you can enter then manually, or if it's a Sony text CD, it will learn them the same as any Xplod HU displays them on the screen.

Yeah I was looking at that one.. the only thing that sucks is that our shop doesn't carry Kenwood so I can't get that cheap like that Eclipse.. but I'll look at it again and see what I think.
