Dell Pocket DJ?
I am thinking about getting one of those Dell Pocket DJs, Dell's version of the IPod. I heard that they are just as good, and the memory seems to be cheaper than the IPod. I want to play it in my car and I saw that they have the Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter. I was wondering if this device will transmit the signal going to my HU in better than radio quality, or will it still be at 96Kb per second or whatever radio is transmited as? Thanks.
If I am thinking correctly, FM transmissions are not digital discrete time signals, so the transmitter should be able to transmit your signal as clearly as your DJ will play. Also, the bandwidth of FM stations is much larger than human hearing, so there shouldn't be any problem I know of.
I do know that I've rarely heard a good sounding FM modulator. I don't know what HU you have, but even if you have stock, it should sound a lot better through an RCA adapter for the AUX input.
Also, let us know how it sounds once you get one, I've kind of been looking to get one, but don't know yet, the price is a whole lot better than an Apple, especially when dell has em on sale

I wrold recommend against the FM modulator, esp if you live in a larger city where there could be amounts of frequency loss. The frequency has to be clear the whole time, to get a good sound out of the modultor. I have my iPod hooked up through the aux input of my deck, and it sounds great. Going directly connected will give you the best sound.

I have an Alpine CDA-7893 HU, how can I connect it directly? I installed my front components and subwoofer my myself so I know where everything is located. I just never saw anything on the dell website that would allow you to connect it directly to your HU.

I am not, I am too picky about music quality to get something like that. Hell, I have XM Radio and I am fixing to get rid of it because I don't like the quality of it.
Something like this would be ideal: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FN90Xs4...M123B&g=178450
I would skip the Dell Pocket DJ as well as the Belkin FM modulator. I have a couple of friends that I ride with that work at Dell that offered up advice to stay away from it due to reliability issues. As a matter of fact, two of the Dellionares use iPod's when we ride in Austin.

alright, there are two different connectors, which one will work? One of them is:
Alpine KCM-123B
Auxiliary input adapter cable (M-Bus to mini-plug)
and the other is
Street machines Systems Alpine AiNet to RCA Audio Adapter.
I have XM Radio, but there is an extra connection on the Alpine XM Reciever where you can connect extra peripherals.

Personally, I would go with IRiver. I have the H320, which is 20 gigs, stores photos/text/and other files, a built in microphone, line-in, and built in encoding up to 320k. I got mine for $266 at Best Buy or you can get them on Amazon.com for $280 I believe
