I just bought a new 2005 EX-Special Edition, 5-spd, sedan. I love it. I am actually quite impressed with the quality of the factory stereo system. I would like to know a couple things about the system though:
1. What are the sizes of the 6 speaker compartments?
2. Does the factory in-dash 6-disc system have another channel for say...a sub?
3. What company makes the factory head unit?
4. What company makes the 6 factory speakers?
5. What is the size of the factory head unit?

I ask these things because I would like to upgrade the head unit to a dvd display and add a sub. I also am curious about the maker of the speakers, because I have a pair of 5 1/4" Focal's from my last vehicle that I am considering installing. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hey first of all welcome and this being your first post those are pretty good questions....

Head Unit is made by Panasonic
No PreOuts you have to get an inverter I believe its called not sure...
Size???? Be more specific

and for the other speaker questions there are pros here that know all that info..

The sedan has all 6 1/2" speakers and the ex has tweeters also, you can make your speakers fit by making a mounting plate out of mdf. not hard at all. i think pioneer makes the cd player and speakers .

I appreciate the help. I've been doing some searching for this information and I can't find it anywhere. The first thing I noticed when I sat in the Special Edition car was that the in-dash setup is not shaped the same as the other civics (the other ones sort of slant to the right a little bit...somebody must know what I'm talking about). My question about size is...is the in-dash stereo a double-DIN sized unit...so I could theoretically just swap it out? Thanks.

Yes it a double din system.... The reason our system is like that is because it sits deeper in the head Unit or dash pod as the OEM single player CD has a little CD case and it has molded plastic that goes around the dash and has a nice trim finish if you know what I mean....Look at the other threads on the 6 disc changer for info about amps ..You need a module thta takes your speaker wires and hooks them up to some preouts...
