help with power cap
hey i have decided to use a stinger powercap because my lcd screen dims to much when my sub is pounding. i thought you just hook up the positive to each side of the power cap but now that i look at it theres a positve and a negative. how would i wire this in. and where exactly. i thought it would go after them in serios with the postive so whats the negative termanal for??????
The cap needs to be placed within 18" of the subwoofer amp. The power wire from the battery runs to the positive terminal of the cap and from the same positive terminal of the cap runs a power wire to the positive connection of your amp. Run a wire from the negative terminal of the cap to the same place you run the ground from you amp to. Wah-la... a working capacitor!

do u think i can put the ground from the amp to the negative on the cap and then continue the ground wire to the original ground i have. or do they have to have there own ground? and for the power wire can i just have the power wire go to the cap then continue to amp
most people just wire it into the D-block for power, and add another ring terminal wherever they ground.
if you hvae only one amplifier, you can put another spade terminal into the slot of the amplifier power inputs, both power and ground, if you wish.
before you make nice wires, physically install the cap, do all the work, I would play with positioning, first. remember, your goal as stated is to prevent the lcd from dimming. so perhaps using the power capacitor near the LCD (very near) might prvide a greater benefit than near the power amplifier.
have you also considered a video line driver? a variety of line drivers are built specifically for hte purpose of video, and cna brighten things up a bit. I dont know if you have a dim on bass hit kind of issue, or dim when the stereo is on and loud kind of thing, but that is another potential solution to think about.
but perhaps we can better help you if we understood the dimming thing more - the LCD dims during bass hits then brightens? or does it just straight dim when the subwoofer is playing, and remain dimmer?

k the problem im having is the dimming of the lcd when the bass hits. not when its loud just when the sub hits. which also dims the lights like most 7thgens without a cap. so do u think it would work if i just got like 2inches of power wire and 2 inches of ground wire and just brideged the 2 to the exsisteing power and ground in the amplifyer???
I would test first where the cap does the most good - at the LCD, or at the amplifier. you may find youll need more than 2 inches of wire just to physically install the thing somewhere near the equipment you are looking to help out dips.
let me ask my EE buddy, now that I think about it, as I understand it inductors are used to iron out spikes caused by events such as ignition, and might prevent drops at the LCD itself, while the cap near the amp would be more suited to reduce a general car voltage drop
shoot, I think thats only when the voltage spikes, not drops....
ill get back to you in a day or so when I find out better information

fatty power cap in parrallel behind the dash connected close to the LCD screen. thatll eliminate the LCD dimming.
the inductor thing smooths out current peaks, not voltage ones, so I had it backwards.
good luck!
