metra question

i know this is the wrong place for this but i figured you could help. my gf has a 2000 ford ranger and i got her a cd player for x mas. i got the metra wire harness. it has the ford connection, and then a universal on the other side. i was looking a the cd player and the connecter, and they dont fit at all. should i just cut them and do it that way or what? i did a couple of head units before so i know what i am doing.

The harness should have a plug at one end and stripped wires at the other. There should also be a harness that comes with the radio that looks the same way (plug on one end, stripped wire on the other). You connect them up by color (crimp, butt connectors, solder, etc.). The metra plug end plugs to the stock plug from the back of the stock hu while the radio's plug plugs into the back of the new unit.

did you get the harness from circuit city? cc uses the universal harness, only retailer i know of that uses and sells the universal harness. cc carries pioneer, alpine, panasonic, aiwa, jvc and sony. so if the new HU is one of those you should be able to pick up the universal harness for the HU at your local cc if you have one or you can order it online at cc's website.

yup. circuit city has contract with metra, only CC can carry the universal ended plugs. all you need to do is buy the second plug or chop off the univeral side and hardwire it to the one that came with the new HU. you cant lose either way.
