Yes sir, pretty much the goal from the beginning was to retain the cup holders. I can. They could be better. But they work. I'm working on making them better.

Not quite sure yet, I'll be exploring several options like making them deeper, taking off the door that covers them, etc.

What kinda drink you want? I'll tell you ahead of time that it fits a little crooked. For instance, my coffee has to be sipped a little before I put there. My bottled waters go right in though. The thing is, originally I was concerned about the drink holder, but the relocation came out so damn good and I like having my HU there so damn much, I couldn't give a rat's *** about the cup holder anymore. Honestly, if I never open that little door again, I won't shed a tear. However, I am considering fabricating a quick little drink holder to hold coffee right behind my shifter, where that little useless 1cm deep tray is.

Oh and, Although I won't be selling any of these, lol, I will certainly give whatever help is needed to anyone who want's to relocate the headunit. You can PM me or just start a thread.

Careful you don't spill a drink on it.

I just glanced through this thread. Why did you relocate the HU there? Are you putting a screen up higher?

probably because of less glare and easier to reach. perhaps to put back the oem stero to make it less appealing to theives. Which also means you get your oem clock back :P

Actually, I am putting a screen up there for a computer. However, After seeing it relocated I would have done it for the reasons Adam mentioned as well. I find the HU much easier to control where it is now, it can't easily be seen from the outside and it would give the factory look back to the dash. The Alpine 9833 is awesome because you can change the buttons so much to look just like your dash display. I'll take a night pic and post it, looks amazing.

The cage? It came with the head unit. Thats what I've always called it, a cage. You might call it something else but it's just the metal thing that the head unit slides into and locks to.

a whizzer wheel and a dremel. The whiz is a pnuematic disc saw with a cutoff wheel. I did the rough cuts with the whiz and the fine tuning with the dremel. Should've taken pics but I dind't.

Is it possible you can take pics of it back there? I just want to see exactly what you cut so I dont cut an important bracket.

If you look back there, its the only one in the way. I won't be able to take pics for a wihle because its kind of a pita to remover the lowre panel. The less I fk with it, the less likely it is to crack or something. I will take pics when I get around to swapping my RCAs though.

That is sick. I have the 9833 too. man I wish I could do that too. I really don't feel up to doing all of that work though. Plus mine is a 01 so its different. Nice work though.

The 01 only requires cutting the bracket, and cutting the hole for the HU. Good thing is, you can snap the piece out to work on it without ripping the car apart.

well, heres where it's easier. If I didn't have to worry about two things my like would've been a lot easier.

1. The fact that the two long flaps that run down the side of the console meant that I had to completely blend the fiberglass into the ABs plastic and fabricate my own sidewalls so it would curve down gradually on the side of the cupholder.

2. The fact that those two flaps had to be flexible enough to wrap around the console, definitely dictated to some degree how I had to glass. Once, I glassed the outsides of those flap sides, the wouldn't be flexible anymore. If it were just the dash console piece like the 03s, it would've been a breeze.
