well, it turned out the only touchscreens I could find that werent a part of the all-in-one units made by pioneer, kenwood, alpine, etc. were USB units. that meant the only way I could integrate a touchscreen into my car was to use a computer DVD player.
to the best of my knowledge, there is no possible way to have an add on touchscreen in your car unless it is hooked up to an in car computer.
edit: I almost forgot, you can add a touchscreen to very nearly every flat monitor in existance with panel overlays available at www.digitalww.com. they have sizes from 7 inches to 17 inches. not too expensive too, I think it would be neat to add a touchscreen to my CRT for my home computer!
and the feeback on digitallww.com he is one man shop, but a great guy. The best service i ever get on internet is him as far and something not working and sending it back. I bought a 7" indash touchscreen monitor from this any it broke after 2-3 months i called him sent it back and he fixed in 2 days and got it back worked like a charm. same thing happened week ago sent it back and now he is fixing it.
I have to admit though:
touchscreen: $100
LCD: $250 (shoul have gotten vga for gps)
GPS: $110
keyboard: free (laptop salvage)
vga to rca converter: $115
microphone: $35
cable extensions: ~$50 (usb extensions are expensive now)
docking station: $100
IBM T42: $1200
Tripp Lite inverter: $50
Software:
so yeah, the touchscreen itself is really cheap, but in the end, total cost can get rather high.......

I have the indash vga with touch that i bought from there. It was only $450.00. you went the long route i dont know why. Because you bought $250 lcd $100 for touch and 115 for the converter. And thats $415.
It CAN get expensive, but doesn't HAVE to.
VIA MII 10000 Motherboard = 150
Harddrive 50
DVD ROM 30
Memory 50
PSU 75
Liliput 7: touch VGA 279
GPS 150
TV TUNER/ FM Card 60
It's all in what you want to use. I bought a plain old electronics project box from an electronics store and I'm builiding my own 1.2ghz computer with a 12x12cm motherboard. Not much bigger than a can of pepsi. Whole thing with DVD, NAV, TV Tuner, MP3 player, etc less than $700. how much did you say that AVIC-N1 was again? And the computer can do much more. BTW, Rabbit, if you ARE interested in going the computer route, check out MediaCar software for a touch-application.

Oh, I didn't realize you were already up and running. Do you have a Honda Skin for mediaengine?
neither. I didnt want motorization, and I havent found a good spot to put the radio yet. best idea now is to relocate the face on a tether with a clip at the top of the dash, but still, where to put the radio? maybe under the steering column, something, I havent figured out the answer yet. once thats solved, I can work on molding the screen into the dash.
That will look sharp once it's done. What's the angle like for the HU? Is the HU angled up at all or is it perfectly horizontal? Personally, I would find it uncomfortable if the HU came out close to horizontal.... but that is just me.
Anway, great job!
