New Sound System?
New Sound System?
I have a 2001 LX Sedan with the stock cassette deck and speakers. I am probably going to hang onto the car for at least a couple more years, so I am thinking of replacing the system. I hate to waste things and just like I kept the Firestones for 2 1/2 years, I've kept the stereo. What kind of system would be a good upgrade without going all out. I checked out what Circuit City had and there were several in the $99 - $130 range and speakers in the $60-$90. The technician looked up the specs and he said it was 4 - 6" speakers all around, which I'm sure most here know already. He asked me if I would be replacing all 4 and I am thinking that would be a good idea, for one thing the right front door speaker buzzes sometimes, I'm not sure if it is the speaker or door, but I would like it gone. So would $240 all total get me a decent system, at least upgraded from stock, and I'd get to play CDs in the car for the first time in my life.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Dont forget that you'll need parts to install that equipment - a wiring harness, dash kit, speaker spacers for the fronts (unless you want to gut the factory speaker or make your own, personally I'd just spend the $7 on an adaptor), and speaker harnesses (unless you dont mind cutting the factory plugs off). Better prices can be had then CC or BB, but if you get one of their warrenties they will take care of your speakers if they blow - on the spot. If your only trying to spend a little on an entry level cd player, i'd suggest a pioneer (they seem to have the least problems out of the radios we sell in that price range). Speakers just listen to and pick the ones you like best.

if youre planning on spending so little money, just get a new deck and leave the stock speakers in....
in order to get a well balanced sound from aftermarket, it takes a bit of work, either financial, or elbow grease, and from what im seeing, youre not too well versed in the installation field.

Thanks for the advice. It's true, I am not up on installing electronics, but with the step by step DIYs that seems to help a lot. At least they explain how some of these panels come out. I was aware that a special face plate is needed with non Honda radios, but I don't know too much about wiring harnesses. Maybe I will try an HU installation on my own first and if that is successful maybe I will try the door speakers, except I have a fear about taking the door panels off. It sounds like the stock speakers are already considered 'okay' quality.
