Sub Carpeting?
I was wondering what kind/code of carpet we have in our trunk. Im building a new sub box and I want the carpet to match or be really damn close. Thanks for the help in advance

Coupe and sedan are different. But you should think about custom carpet. I know my stock carpet didn't match well at all compared to the new stuff I bought. Scope out some true custom car audio shops that have rolls of carpeting. wHEN YOU DO THE BOX, IT WON'T BE THAT HARD TO REDO THE STOCK CARPET AND HAVE IT MATCH.

by redoing the carpet do you mean the whole trunk? Or just the part that was removable to get to the spare tire? also I have a sedan so what color is in there?

Sedan has a really light grey that doesn't match at all. Why is it so hard to recarpet the whole trunk? Just get bulk carpet, cut it out, and glue down. I did it in a couple hours where the spare tire used to be. I don't even need the heavy cardboard crap. And I had to try and cut in the trunk. If you already have the stock carpet, take it out and trace an outline on the new one.

Why dont you need the heavy cardboard crap? Its just metal under that isnt it so by taking it off isnt the sides of your trunk just straight metal or did you carpet it?

He did that because he removed his spare. If you want to keep your spare in the trunk, Keep the cardboard piece. If you're adding a sub and box that are moderately heavy, I'd probably replace that with MDF because unless your sub box spans the gap, it's going to eventually sag if you sit it on there. For the pattern for the MDF, lay the piece of carpet on it and trace around it. Cut 1/4 inch inside the line, or you'll have to remove the rubber gasket seal around the trunk lid and slightly bend the metal lip it covers to get it in. That's for a 1 piece replacement. Others have used two pieces to do their trunk, I wanted to keep mine one piece, so I simply cut inside the line. Another thing with removing the spare and cardboard piece, as you'll see in gearbox's pic he posted, that you can see the lip on the plastic piece that goes at the rear of the trunk covering the jack. It also leaves that exposed. Not saying it looks bad, but if your spare stays in the trunk, why would you remove that and give yourself a not flat trunk floor?

I gotcha gearbox...I thought u were talking about the sides of the trunk not the trunk floor. Im building a sub enclosure close to what you have but a lil different. Im going to recarpet that whole portion I just thought you meant you did the whole trunk (walls, wheel wells, back seat.)

Well yeah there's the lip thing that shows. I did fix the back by adding a new piece and gluing the carpet together flush on a slanted cardboard. You can't even tell it's cut now, and the top metal is covered. I did do a trunk floor with the cardboard and carpet, but took it back out cause it was weighing like 12 lbs. I never use trunk anyway, but I do have a cover in case I do under the bed
