I'm airheaded again guys.......

Well as some of you guys know, im ordered a 15" type r......... DVC 2 ohms. Now..... i went to best buy with a friend yesterday and the technician there looked at my amp and all the specs and told me that my amp may be too "underpowered" for the type r??? I told him the RMS on the sub was 200-500 and it should be perfect for my amp......

http://www.lightningaudio.com/2004/p...t.asp?prodID=3

Everything thinks lightning audio is walmart quality... thats only the bolt series. The Strike and Storm can be bought at an audio store...... not walmart. Everything somebody hears the word LA audio they think of **** and thats what the best buy tech. thought.

OKAY............ Can anyone tell me the RMS on my amp??? It says 400X1@ 4 ohms. Is 400 the RMS? Wouldn't that be fine with the type r? BUTT... the max power of my amp is also 400 watts..... so nobody really told me the RMS.... Thanks.

Didn't you just answer your own question? Anyways..
Root Means Square power is usually around 50-60% of the peak power. If you notice on certain subwoofers, the RMS power usually isn't listed just because it all depends on various installs.
Anyways, the RMS wattage of that amp is probably around 200-240watts. So in other words, buy yourself a different amp. Suprisingly enough, the technician at Best Buy was right.. I don't think I'd even use that amp to power an Alpine Type R 12".
I think I'd use it to power my components ha

We went over it again and again. That amp will be fine w/ that sub. The only thing that will happen is it won't get as loud as it should. Honestly I think that amp will realistically put out about 150rms / 300 max. Thats enough power to get a sub bumping. I'd say it will still do in the 120's db wise ....

I had a pair of Soundstream 12's running off a 90x2 (max) Soundstream amp pulling 128db ....

Get the sub and try it first. If it isn't loud enough for you, then you need a bigger amp. If it is loud enough, f-em, and just cruise around w/ a smile on your face.....

thanks a lot man.....

and umm i spent almost 300 on the amp when it first came out... you people who dont know lightning audio have to understand that the strike and storm series differ from bolt ( wally world quality). I think of LA strike and storms as sleeper amps.

I guess that's what I was trying to say. IMO, I just don't think that it is going to be loud enough, but since you already have it, definitely try it out.

No he wont. He's bridging his amp, and his amp only supports a 4ohm bridged load. A DVC 2ohm woofer can be wired to 1 or 4 ohm.
