my friend is running a lucent usb orinoco gold card. It works pretty good. The thing good about the orinoco card is that there is a pcmiaa card inside the case. So if you don' t have a good connection with the card, you can open up the case and there is a pigtail connection on the card so you add a wifi antenna to it.

one more thing if u decide to go with the orinoco card, make sure its the one made by lucent or ayaya and not proxim. The one made by proxim does not have the pcmiaa card in there. It has a integrated chip set in it, so it will not have the pigtail connection

im not running it from a wireless data card from a cell phone company. i'm going to be running it from my wifi network so its no extra cost.

You are willing to only use it within 1200 feet of your network?

i only really need it to sync with my other computer to get my new files . As for using the internet on it, i'll only use it whenever i'm near a hotspot. I don't need to use the internet that bad. If i needed to use it though, i would just connect it to my cell phone and use the gprs kilobytes.

You've had computer stuff not in use for 4 months????? It'll be outdated before you ever get it in! LOL. Wardriving aint such a big deal. anyone that doesnt' want you to access their files should have Wired Equivalent Privacy encription in place. As far as the signal for internet goes . . . theoretically you could be grabbing from any number of legitimate sources like Starbucks or little Cafes - who's to say it's wrong. If a company has their signal extending well beyond their building, thats thier careless error. What should you do, pay for it? Thats like someone asking you for money cause you got a contact high while they were smoking. . .

haha yeah it's outdated, i keep on delaying it. I just trying to decide what to do with it. I just decided to do 5.1 audio in the car. Yeah thats what i think bout wardriving also. If they don't want people getting into there networks they should of wep. But thats still easy to crack into if you wanted to get in. I wouldn't do anything to there network anyway. The only thing i would do is surf the net on a couple of pages then leave.
