HELP with Pioneer DEH-P6500 Settings

well, i have had this cd player for a while and i want to set the setting to sound best for me, but im kinda a n00b when it comes to audio/ICE. i listen to mostly rock and alternative stuff with the occassional beastie boys and Rage against the machine, so i still like hearin a little bass. right now i have stock component speakers and do not plan on upgrading cause they dont matter too much to me. i took some pics of the setting screens so if someone could help me, i would appreciate it. thanks. just let me know what you think i should change or do with each situartion.

^CD Player

1. For Bass and Treble, i have the option to choose a number between -6 and 6, i have both set at 3.

2. For this Loud graph, i have the option of Low, Mid, or High. I have Mid selected.

3. For the HPF option whatever that is, i have a choice of on or off.

4. For the FM level thing, i have the option of a number between -6 and 6, 0 is selected.

5. For the equalizer bars Low/Mid/High all have an option of -6 through 6, i have 6 for Low, 5 for Mid, and 6 for High.

6. For the equalizer graph thing, it is set on a custom option for who knows why. Here is what it looks like, how should i make it? i dont know anything about this.

also, i notice that my CDs seem to play a decent amount louder than the radio. for example, i can listen to the CD comfortably at volume of 15, but when i go to the radio, i ahve to turn it up to like 20 or so cause it is quieter. is there anything i can do to adjust that so they both are the same?

thanks alot for the help, i really appreciate it.

I turned my Loud option off, because it just boost the treble and bass up. It kind of kills the SQ a bit.

The FM level thing is why your cd plays louder than FM. The FM is set to play at a certain volume, you can't change it. But you can change the volume setting for the cd player, so that it matches up with the FM volume. That is the purpose of that function.

Set the equalizer to when it sounds good to you. Some people like more bass, and some don't. Try to balance out the highs and lows, so that you can still hear both frequencies in the music.

Another function that my 750 has is when you hold down the "Audio" button, you get a whole bunch of nice things to tweak. I'm not sure if your model has this, but give it a shot. You can adjust the frequency that your bass or treble boost. You also get to choose a central frequency for each band of your equalizer. You then set the Q of that frequency.
Example, we have 3 band parametric equalizer. (low, mid, high) For lows, you get to choose between something like 40 - 100. I think I chose 60, not sure. That will be the main frequency your deck influences when you change the Low frequency between -6 and 6. Setting the Q lets you choose between 1N, 2N, 1W, and 2W. "N" stands for narrow, and W stands for wide. Just because I set the freq at 60, doesn't mean I lose all other freq. played. That is why you set the Q to narrow or wide to allow your deck to play signals in a wider range from your set freq.

Oh, and it's set to Custom equalization because you chose it...haha. Press the EQ button next to your Volume ****. I believe the choices are flat, powerfull, super bass, vocal, and custom. This is an easy way to adjust your equalizer setting when you listen to differen types of music. After you choose a setting, you can do other adjusting in the the equalizer setting by pressing the Audio button. You'll notice that your settings changed because now the setting accomodate the Eq you chose. Don't worry about changing it, because it will reset after you move to a different Eq setting.

You can also play with the EQ-EX button near your function button. I use EQ-EX on, because I think you have more adjustability. Hold down the EQ-EX button to turn on SFEQ, which will change the staging of your music. I'm not sure if your deck has that function, but it's fun to mess around with if you have it.
