semi DIY:Head unit relocation in 01

alright some of oyu may have seen my screen in this thread
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=168077

some people wanted to know what i did with the headunit.
so heres a semi diy of pics to show what i did.
i took out the stock head unit and im running a EQ and cd receiver.
the eq is where the cig lighter was and the cd player is next to the ebrake.

so heres the magical substabce called bondo. im using the fiberglass version because it is a lot stronger.

here is the panasonic unit

first thing i did was cut the hole big enough to fit the head unit in.

test fit

once it fit i built a box for it

then assemble the box around the head unit

check to see it fits

then i started to secure the box to the console

after its secured all you have to do is fill in the rest, the way oyu want it to look

after that all you need it sanding and painting.
heres a pic of it in the car, the reason why my head unit is that high up is because of clearance issues with the ebrake. some head units may be smaller and not have to go that high.

pretty much the same thing with the eq, cut hole to fit, build box then bondo in. sand and paint.

all i need to do is sand and paint, i got sick last week so i wasnt able to finish it.
hopefully you guys wont kill my photobucket bandwidth.

all that work for $100 worth of gear.

with your indash unit why do you need this unit? just for volume control and the occasional borrowed cd?
