Rep Power: 0 aaahhhhh help me please ***update***
i just got done installing my hu in and everything seems to work fine. i start up the car and i smell burning. then my guage lights stop working. i double checked all fuses and they are all good. the hu is perfectly fine and still works right now. the problem is i dont know wat was burning. it seems to come from behind the hu. i cant figure out why my guage lights arent working. and when i turn on my headlights the emergency blinkers stay on constantly without blinking. help me please
edit- i just checked again and the problem is still there. now the srs lights stays on and the turn signals blink every five seconds or so. how can this happen?? just by the radio?? can someone tell me if this has happened to them before. this is a definite first for me.

Rep Power: 305 After checking your wiring, check both sets of fuses (in the car, and under the hood). Make sure you find the problem in the wiring first though cause if you replace the fuse, you'll just pop it again.

Rep Power: 283 On the harness there is two wires that are for illumination. They feed the orange wires on the aftermarket harness. The honda wire colors are red and red/blk.
Did you hook up anything to the red wire? The red/blk wire is the illumination output. Red wire is the dimmer circuit. Hooking up a stereo to this wire will fry your dash board cluster.

Rep Power: 283 When you hook up a head unit to the dimmer wire, it grounds out the wire and shorts it out. That was the burning smell you had. It was the circuits inside the dash cluster (which holds the dimmer circuit).
Unfortunately, I would have to say that you need to disconnect the wire, and get a different cluster. Your best best would be to get one off of Ebay. 2001-2 same except coupe and sedan are different color, but you can switch out those parts. Just get one that has either a stick or automatic, to match your car.
I fixed one for a friend, but it took a couple of days soldering and such.

Rep Power: 283 The dash is a multiplex, meaning the cluster is all computer controlled. If the trace burns along with some other wires, it can cause it to malfunction in other ways.
A few other members have had this same issue when hooking up something to the red wire. All of them had to replace the cluster, then everything was fine.

Rep Power: 283 01-02 have the same harness. 003-04 different. So if you want to keep it simple, stay within those years. A used cluster is going to set you back 50-100 on ebay.
