9833 question

I got my hu about 3 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it, but I do have a little problem with it. Every time I want to turn the volume over 23 (it goes from 1-35), the headunit turns off, and turns back on at 0. Now, I'm thinking this happens because alpine requires to hook up the power wire directly to the battery terminal, but I only hooked it up to the harness, like I had my old sony cd deck. Could that be the problem?? If so, I'll be buying a 10ga wire tomorrow. I only hooked it up this way because a couple members on this site also did the same thing, and I was in no mood to put a hole in the firewall again. Anyways, I would really appreciate if you guys could reply...Especially the people w/ 9833 and 9835 hu. Thanks

go to www.canadiancaraudio.com and ask there, a lot of people with 9835 headunits and a few alpine dealers

Installation notes indicate a direct connection to the battery is required due to high current draw, IMO that's probably why it craps out.

I have a 9835 on the factory harness and I have no problems. Sounds more like a bad ground issue to me. I would make sure your ground connection on the harness is secure, or re-ground to the chassis.

i thought it was the ground too, but it turns off exactly when I go over 22 on the volume.

Going over 22 on the volume **** could draw more power than a faulty ground can ground out, causing the HU to reset. Try re-grounding it.

^^I'll do it tomorrow, but I'm also connecting it directly to the battery once I get some free time on my hands. BTW, just found out I can turn off my display at night... Really neat, since the blue was a bit too bright...

If you wired it correctly it should dim itself at night...or is it still too bright after dimming? I think the 9833 also has a brightness and contrast control for the display.

Um where is the chasis located?

How do you turn the HU off during night time I have a 9833 with the same problem. I grounded it to the same place as where another ground was. I think it was for my alarm.
