revers sub question...

When I set the sub fonction (on the HU) to
''revers sub'', there is a lot more bass than with
the regular seting. I want to know what happen
with the woofer in each position. What I understand
is that in reverse mode, the woofer move out instead
of move in and vice versa. Am I right. Is it the same
thing that happen when you invert polarity ???

Thanks,
Philippe.

Reversing the phase of a speaker, basically it is a 180deg phase shift, is essentially the same thing as reversing pos and neg from the amp to the speaker. Its strange that if you've got a conventional sub setup like 1 or 2 subs in a box facing forward or back, that you'd get better sound by reversing the phase. Keepin mind though, if you are hitting one button that performss a function such as "reverse sub" than the function it performs depends entirely on a reference point. FOr instance, if you have your subs already firing what your HU might consider 0 phase, pushing the button will will shift the phase to 180. If it was 180 to start, vice versa. SO basically I'm just saying, are you sure your subs weren't, for lack of a better term, out of phase before you pushed the button?

I think what me means to say is, "are you sure you didn't wire your subs backwards?"

Not exactly. I meant are sure you didnt' change the phase twice with the head unit. Youn know, you get your head unit and your screw with it for a couple days just trying to figure it out. If you don't know what you are doing, you accidentally shift phase. Your subs sound OK but not as good as they should because you've got no reason to be switching phase. THen, you discovery phase shift button and push it. Subs sound better because you put the phase back the way it should be but you think you've just "reversed" the phase

No, I'm sure that my sub is connect the right way:

hu sub exit to rca, rca to amp input, amp out to sub,
bridge the amp(it's a 2 channels), + to sub + and - to sub -

Thanks for your input, you know, the difference is major,
like 2x the bass without clipping. maybe it's my enclosure ???

Phil.
