LED connection, help

LED connection, help
I am trying to do the VTEC light DIY yourself but I ran into a roadblock. I picked up an LED of 5V(highest that they had) and a 440Ohm resistor. I tried testing it and connected it like I think it should be, pictured here:
(sorry for it being so blurry, could not get my camera to focus on it)
Now when I try to connect it to to the car battery (the other end of the LED to ground of course), it doesn't light up. Any ideas?

No, don't confuse him even more. Here is exactly how to connect it. Notice power goes from battery to resistor to long lead of LED, and finally to ground.

But if the resistor does in fact go to the long end, then the DIY is is wrong (I think):
Well I tried to connect is all the wys possible and it still doesn't light up. Maybe the LED just doesn't work, I'll get another one tomorrow.(The fact that's it's a 5V one doesn't matter even if we use it in a car)?
Hmm I'm mad at myself that Ic an't figure this one out. I mean I connected my whole audio system myself (hu, 2 amps, comps, subs).
But if the resistor does in fact go to the long end, then the DIY is is wrong (I think):
Time to set the LED up. You need to put the resistor in series with the ground lead of the LED (for those who don't speak electronics, you need to hook up one resistor lead to the shorter lead on the LED and the other end to the wire you grounded)

Rep Power: 812 Well the forward voltage determines the resistor to be used. Mine were 4v, so I used 580 ohm resistor. If you burnt the led, you should've seen it light up really bright for a second and then fizzle out. Try another one. Maybe yours got ruined. But the pic above is how I wired mine.

i look for the highest mcd (brightness) the resister i use is 470ohms not 470k ohms
