Well I ordered the Pioneer DEH-P8600

$350 shipped, including dash kit and wiring harness. Hopefully I'll be able to use this dash kit and wiring harness and won't have to buy one from Circuit City.

So for those of you following my sub saga I guess I'll hook it up the normal way first using the sub preout, and if that doesn't sound good enough (read: doesn't allow for high enough crossover) I'll just hook it up the way my stock HU is hooked up now, with the sub and rear speakers coming from the same output so I can use the crossover on my amp.

Sweet!

lol!

congratz on ur new deck!

i'm pretty sure that u'll be amazed with the functions..

except these two (firmware errors) things: (actually, PM me about it!!)

1. mp3/cd browser ALWAYS go back to the home directory even though ur playing 100th file inside the CD....isn't suppose to go back to the same song when u're trying to re-browse the CD??

2. the random function IS REALLY DAMN STRANGE. i don't know how to use it...don't expect to just set the random as "on" and then, when u press FF, the song goes from track 1 to track 5 (random)...it doesn't work that way...or maybe cos' i don't know how..

other than that, the deck rocks!!

i got it from a fellow member...

$600, 8600mp, 2 12"kicker boxed, 1F cap, 1200watt amp...

anyway, the DEH-8600MP COMES with the original pioneer wiring! DON'T USE the aftermarket wiring...sincere there are lot's of good stuffs like fuses integrated on the original wiring..

1. What is firmware?

2. I don't usually sort .mp3's by folder, but then again I've never been able to play .mp3s in my car before

3. I don't use random

4. Thanks for telling me this stuff BEFORE I bought it

i don't think u can update firmware..............

well, it's like this...

u browse the cd....and u got track 50....out of 100 track...u click play...ok, the music's playing and the screen back to the screensaver, right?

now, u want to play track 60, u'r hoping to just rotate the button and then rotate 10 times to the right, right?

now, this deck won't do that. the (fu<kin) cursor will be back at track 1 instead of 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so, ur choice is to either again 60 rotate to the right or 40 rotate to the left.....

my super cheap iRiver mp3-cd-player iMP-150 even did a better job than this deck!!

WELL, this is considering that u got one directory...NOW, if u got a directory inside a directory and another inside another....the player will always go back to the ROOT DIRECTORY instead of the directory that ur playing..

Browsing in my pioneer sucks. If I have 100 songs in a folder, I have to press the forward button 100 times to get to the last song. I think they improved this tho. Ironfist, he's right. Don't use random select. I had to pull the battery to reset it cause the function messed up so bad.

Congrats on the deck! And yeah, use the wires that came with the deck to plug into the back, then the extra harnesses for plugging into the car.

But if you're listening to regular (non-.mp3) cd's and you're on track 6 and you want to get to 10 you just bump it forward 4 times, right?

Dude when I make a post like "does anyone have this deck? What do you think of it?" that's the time to be like "well the .mp3 selection sucks ***..."

well...

with 8600, u can browse the files inside your CD with your right ****.....

if ur turn it (either left or right), it'll go inside the directory inside your CD...like a list...pretty neat....cool feature....since it'll tell u the name of the file and/or the name of the title...

do u get what i mean by "browsing" the cd?

again, im not really sure whether this is the "bug" which exist only on my deck or not...
i hope it's not on urs....since it's really bugging me..

Hey wait I just thought of this. Tell me if this is possible or not. Ok, I got new Pioneer speakers for the front a month or two ago. They sound really good for mids and highs, but they have even less bass than stock. But I think their rms is higher than what the stock deck puts out. So do you think it's possible that when I install this new deck, because it has 22 rms as opposed to the 8 or whatever stock is, that the added power will help bring out the bass? I know that bass in general requires more power than higher pitched frequencies, which is why you need a seperate amp for a sub but not necessarily for regular speakers.

I just thought of that last night. Tell me what you think. Cuz the reviews I read said that the added power of this deck makes the speakers sound better, so I dunno.

The Pioneer isn't nearly 22rms by any means. The deck is better than stock, but not much. You might be looking at 12 watts at most ....

Look at my response about HU power in this post: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...=176520&page=1

And it probably is 22 watts rms ..... at 5% THD and from 50Hz-20kHz .....

Consider this part at 5% THD and from 50Hz-20kHz the fine print.

Move that to something more reasonable like 0.1% THD and 20Hz-20kHz and your back down to 10-12 watts most likely .....

Or they could say 30 watts rms .... at 10% THD and 60Hz-20kHz ......

Ok actually all it says is 22 rms so I don't know. What's THD? Distortion? That sounds shady that they'd use a bad level of distortion to bump up the RMS rating.

THD = Total Harmonic Distortion

Page 72 of the manual states:
Continuous power output is 22 W per channel minumum into 4 ohms, both channels driven 50 to 15,000 Hz with no more than 5% THD.

This is why even a small 40x2 amp will make such a drastic difference.

It is a full bandwidth signal, starts at 20Hz vs 50Hz. Thats where some good bass is.

Plus there is somethere around 100x less distortion, 5% vs 0.05% ......

Of course, but reality is the public is ignorant and numbers sell. The average guy wants the most power possible, or at least to think he has it. If Aiwa, Sony, and crew all put 60 watts on their spec sheets and Pioneer just says 25 watts no one would buy the Pioneers just for that reason. Everything is a numbers game. The more you restrict the freq bandwidth and the higher you allow the THD to go ..... the higher the power ratings can be.

Ever notice that the higher end decks don't have internal amps, only RCA outputs. Thats because there is no point at trying to make a HU that can compete w/ an aftermarket amp. Its just not possible. Theres no way to pack the needed parts into a HU and have the HU still have CD playing mechanisms and stuff ... let alone have the HU dissapate all the heat that is generated.

So it only goes up to 15,000Hz? Isn't the upper end of the audible spectrum 20,000Hz?

No the power rating will just change above that range.... more distortion.

The problem could be that the aftermarket speakers have a lower sensitivity than stock. This means that the stock speakers could take less power to react than the aftermarket ones. I use Alpine Type-S in my doors partially because of their high sensitivity making them good for internal deck power. If you used speakers with very low sensitivity, then they wouldn't sound quite the same or go quite as loud as speakers with a higher sensitivity. The stock speakers are designed more towards using deck power whereas your Pioneer's are probably designed to use amplifier power.

Make any sense?
