Does it work?
Does it work?
I am getting a new 7" monitor in the mail today and wanted to know a quick and easy way to test the monitor before I custom mold this thing to my dash. I have not even removed the factory stereo yet, because I wanted to at least have music while I am working on the custom dash piece. It would really suck If i did all the custom work and the monitor does not work and I have to send it back. Please, any info is welcome.
i received my monitor friday. The ad said it had two video inputs but it only had one. Is there a way around this if i wanted to do the dvd hu and my xbox. A video switch or something. Or should I jus complain and send it back. Did not want to wait any longer to get this project started

You can try tapping off the power and ground for your deck, OR you can use the power and ground off your cig lighter.
You really only need power, there is a factory bolt behind the dash that you can use for ground.

My first monitor blew because of the voltage fluctuation (crank/on/off).
Since you have an XBOX, why not run your power off your 12V rail.

You can use a voltage regulator
and a monitor shouldnt blow because of cranking the engine, the power to it should have been cut during that time... wierd... how did you have it wired?

ok if anyone still cares, everything seems to work fine. I hooked it up yesterday as a test run before I got started making the custom dash. Thanks for the help. By the way what is a volt regulator and do i need one.
Electronics like steady power.
Your civic pumps out anywhere from 10volts to 14 volts (crank/on/off).
Your Xbox already pumps out steady power @12 volts, essentially a voltage regulator.
See what I'm getting at?

Megahurtz, my first monitor blew because it was wired like this:
Power (fused) from Battery.
Switched via 40A Automotive Relay.
Switch trigger ... 1G2 (steering harness) to survive crank.
The monitor stayed on when parked, and continued to stay on _as_ you started the engine. It's handy when you're watching a DVD,... and you don't feel like watching it from all the way from_beginning_ ONLY because you have to start the engine to drive
