Video Survailance....?
Has anyone installed a camera in their car to take a video of a potential theif, can you give me opinions on how well it has work of will work. I am thinking about doing that so at least if there is a problem then the cops have something to go on.

What's the point? "So the cops will have something to go on"? You actually think if somebody breaks into your car they are going to review the video, hand out pictures to everybody in the force and try and catch the guy? Naw once they leave the scene, they will never think about it again

There would also bean alarm installed as well, the camera idea would not just be a stand alone. Even if it not help the cops, I am sure it would help me in finding the guy. What about video in a convience store, the cops use it all the time to catch theives

I never implied the video would stop the theft of the car, just for the ICE in the car, at least this way there would be a face to identify and then action could possibly be taken based on that ie finding the guy. I dont think anyone really want a Civic though.. it is mostly the ICE that they look for, so i am not concerned about my civic been driven away in the dead of the night

this technology already exists, but i forgot who makes it. its a IR feed from a camera in the car which you can hook up to an indoor vcr. you would need a vcr strictly for this duty running every second your car is out there, and youd need to remember to turn it on and rewind the tape. in my personal opinion, its garbage

Id be more worried about theft and vandalism then the car acually being stolen, unless your dumb and left it it running with the keys in the ignition
be nice to record a cop harrasing you,

I found a source (Toronto) for an IR (this means you can see it at night without any light) wireless camera + reciever combo in your car.
The base hooks up to your vcr at home. Completely wireless. The camera itself is about the size of a cube of pool chalk, and is totally stealthy.
$175 canadian after taxes. (135 USD)
Feel free to PM me for the source.
